Resume Playback On Different HD200?

Hi all,

Is it possible or could it be possible to start playing a movie on my bedroom HD200 and then resume the playback where I stop it on my downstairs HD200?

Thanks,

This should be the normal behavior in extender mode. When you stop the file, Sage notes the location in the database on the server.

Don't think there is anyway for this to work in stand alone mode.

I second this. In SageTV mode, this is normal behavior as I do it all the time, but in theopposite flow (downstairs to bedroom).

Is this normal or do I have to change a setting? Mine doesn't do that nor will it restart a ripped DVD where I stopped it...it just starts at the beginning.

This is the known behavior when running the extender in stand-alone mode. When running in extender mode thru SageTV server it will remember where it left off for all your media. Because it is client-server when running in extender mode the server will contain all the settings on what is played and where it stopped. Stand-alone mode doesn't have this capability.

OK, my HD-200s in Media Player mode remember where my Blu-ray movies and DVD movies left off and I am able to resume or restart. (These are movies I've set up as Imports)

I don't have a clue where the HD-200 stores the data, or if this works the same way for movies not in folder structures.

EDIT: I tried resuming from another HD-200 and as everyone has said, no go. But on one, it remembers where it was even after power disconnect, which kind of amazes me.

\\Stp-hd200\templogs\sagetv_shares\m-videos\video

there is a hidden .sagetv directory (example path above) for each of my imported directories, so maybe it is stored there.............since this resides on the specific hd200 and not on the NAS (for example), it may not be accessible to a 2nd hd200 (but theoretically could be!)

I tried this with a ripped DVD last night and it didn't work. It started the movie from the beginning. Anyone know how to get it to work correctly?

Thanks,

I'm running beta releases of HD-200 firmware and SageTV. I don't remember having the resume option a couple of months ago, so that may be something that was included in beta releases.

You can zip up your SageTV folder and try out the betas, then go back easily if you want.

I can see the new dialog window now (with my three HD200s).
  1. Play from start
  2. Resume from Local Watched (HD200-1)
  3. Resume from 00:45:02 (HD200-2)
  4. Resume from 01:03:01 (HD200-3)
  5. Cancel

I am using the latest betas. Where did you see those options for resuming that you mentioned?

When you select Videos from the HD200 main menu, you should go to a UI view of your DVDs. You arrow up/down/left/right until you get to the one you want to watch. You press the play button on the HD200 remote and you should get a popup menu with selections of Resume Playback, Start from the Beginning and Cancel.

If you hit select rather than play you'll have one more menu to go through but after selecting Watch Now you should get the Resume Playback etc menu.

EDIT: I'm talking Media Player mode here, not Media Extender, and the folder containing your DVDs must be set up as a video import folder. Works the same in Extender mode but import folders are set up differently.

The amount of a video that has been watched is stored in SageTV's database. When the HD200 is used as an extender, that means the data is on the server PC and affects any client connecting to that server. When the HD200 is used on its own, that means the info is in its local imported media database & thus only affects that HD200; one standalone HD200 wouldn't know how much of the video has been played by some other extender.

If you are having a problem resuming a DVD, then you should probably report that to SageTV if you are already using the most recent software & firmware.
