Subtitles and Captions Both On

I have just installed the "SageTV V6.5.17" and I have just played an AVI film that has a corresponding STR file (it also does the same with SMI files) and I get the Closed Captions showing.

I then went to the options popup menu and tried to turn off the Captions (which said off already on it), but to no avail. Nothing happened.

I then put a tick in the "Subtitles" checkbox and to my amazement I ended up with two sets if titles. I could move the Subtitles to the top of the screen and still had the CC at the bottom.

It seems that the "Subtitles" work perfectly, but I just need a way to turn the CC off!?!?!

Anyone have any idea how to do this???

Oh and yes I have tried messing around with the "cc_option_enabled" parameter in the Sage.properties file too.

It seems that you have the closed caption stvi configured. You could rebuilt your stv without the closed caption stvi included and that would stop the second subtitle showing.

This sounds like the answer and this may sound like a stupid question, but how do I do that?

I am not sure this is an STVi thing. Sage has been adding support for closed captions int he latest betas. I too, am experiencing the same problem ... I can not get rid of the closed captions. However, my issues, did not being with my Sage upgrade (am on 6.5.16 so glad to hear 6.5.17) but started when I upgraded the firmware for my HD100 to the latest beta. For some reason the firmware is not recognizing when the software has it turned off.

Ok I am now on 6_5_19, but I still get both the Captions and the Subtitles. Is there no-one that knows why this is happening????

Is there anyway of turning both off????

Is it because I am using .SRT files???

Surely someone out there knows something about this????

Help!

You don't happen to have VobSub installed? Check for C:\WINDOWS\system32\DVobSub.ax.

or ffdshow installed and VobSub configured?

Closed Caption Too

I'm on 6.5.18 and the closed captions are showing. They have been showing up since 6.5.17. This happens on, both, a 100 and 200.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Matt

Oh my goodness you are a geniuses. YES that was it.
For anyone who does not understand this there are a bunch of, for the sake of argument, little programs that control how the films and sounds are displayed. On my machine I have something called “FFDShow” for the video and the audio and also something called “Direct VOBSub”. All of these were putting subtitles and CC onto the video before Sage even tried to get hold of it.

To fix it just go into these little programs (usually in your tray), find the subtitle or CC section and turn it all off. If you are like me I had to do this in two different applications.

Good luck and thank you so much JREKiwi!!

I have the exact same problem with my HD100 after upgrading to the latest firmware, all recordings show CC now, it isn't even in sync, so it is extremely annoying, and can't figure out how to turn it off.

No one has any idea? It's narrowed it down to it being a HD100 issue, the other MVP based extenders, and SageTV placeshifters do not have this issue. It does this on both SageTV recordings and DVD playback, even when subtitles are disabled in the .properties file, and when using the options context menu.

I haven't seen this issue on my hd100. I'm runnung the 0611 firmware and have no issues with TV recordings or DVDs showing subtitles.

I've had this issue on my HD200 for the past 4 weeks and even if you try and turn DVD subtitles off, they still show up. The only thing I did to make them go away (and it was only temporarily) was change the subtitle language to spanish. Weird. It would be nice if this would get addressed.

It looks like my issue was caused by an older add-on (I upgraded SageTV, but not the add-ons). Once I deleted the content of the client folder (you WILL lose all your extender settings, so you have to start over), it started working right. Only add-ons I have installed are the custom menus, an older version of comskip and the popup plugin.

I upgraded the HD200 firmware last night and the subtitles went away. I still had CC though. While watching a DVD, there is only an option for subtitles (which was already off). When I sent to live TV, a CC option was available and was checked. Once I unchecked the CC option while watching live TV, I haven't had any problems. I also updated to the latest Sage 6_6_2 release, but this was AFTER I did all the above.
