HD Theater won't recognize a drive connected to USB port

I have tried connecting an external hard drive to the HD Theater (also connected via ethernet to a SageTV server) but the device does not recognize the external hard drive. I understood the instruction manual to say that this would work.

Am I doing something wrong or did I misunderstand the manual?

Most likely you're using a USB drive that has high power requirements. Try using a cable that allows plugging it into both USB ports at once and then it should be able to draw enough power.

Or you may just need a firmware update if you happen to be using an HFS (Mac) formatted drive; that's a new feature in the latest firmware.

I've never been able able to get any device to work on my hd200. I don't even get a pop up anymore when I plug a device in. It works fine in standalone mode but not as an extender. Am I missing something?

Oh well, my bad - the drive needed to be initialized, even though it had been in use for months. Go figure.

The HD theater does recognize it now, but seems to treat it as its own seperate server.
