How to use Video Widget

So the SageTV Studio manual does not seem to have a tutorial on using video widgets nor a clear explanation on how to use it. So from what I understand so far, you can use the video widgets to display videos (that's pretty obvious from the name)...but how do you do it. It does not seem like the image widget where there's a property that stores the path to whatever file. I just want to play a video file.

Your best bet is too look at the default STV or SageMC and see how they do it. Displaying a video is the easy bit, the hard part comes with actually starting a video and all the options thats needed to control the video once its playing.

Take another look at the video widget info in the Studio manual -- like it says: if video is playing, the widget will show that video; if it isn't playing, it will start playback of <something>.

For examples, search for the uses of the video widget in the default STV. You don't tell the video widget what to play -- you start playing a video and then make sure a video widget is active where you want the video to be visible.

In other words, the Video widget is meant strictly for media playback, not for animated UI bling. There is at most one video playback stream in progress at a time, which you control through the MediaPlayerAPI. The Video widget just tells Sage where on screen to display that video playback. That's its only job.

How do you start playing a video? Could someone simply tell me the steps? Looking through the default STV to find out how is a bit confusing...so if someone knows how to start playing a video, it would be appreciated if a post was made on how.

I'd suggest searching the stock STV for calls to Watch().
