USB-UIRT SAGE 6.6.2
I've been trying to find out if this is supported for sure or not. It looks like some people have gotten it to work, some haven't. Unfortunately I haven't figured out what the best solution is.
I have: SAGE 6.6.2 Ubuntu 8.10 (latest patches) Comcast Motorola 6412 DCT Digital cable box. Can I buy a USB-UIRT and use this to control my cable box? If so do I need to install any other program that will allow sage to talk to the USB-UIRT? I currently use HDHOMERUN's as my tuners and do not have anything that sends IR signals. I'm looking for the best and most supported way of controlling my cable box via SageTV and using it as a source. Thanks for you time, Sui |

Yes, you can control that STB with a USB-UIRT. I saw something that said that SageTV will use the USB-UIRT directly, but I didn't have any luck with that. Instead, I did it via lirc (in the ubuntu repository) and the external tuner control plugin. Alternatively, you can control that STB with firewire. See the tutorial about it at http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=333. If you don't have the USB-UIRT yet, you can save the $50, and firewire seems quite reliable.
Do you plan to encode the output of the STB with an HDPVR, or something else? |

Thanks for the info.. Gonna try the FireWire method and see if it works. I was going to initially use a PVR card that I have laying around that has svideo and RCA inputs. I'll see how it does then look at getting a HD card (or see if there is a network based one that does HD. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just want to let you know I tried the Firewire option with my box.. works great the tid was pretty acurate. You need to delete all the other remotes out of the external plugin config file .. but it worked great!

I also wanted to mention I had to add my box to the code and recompile the 6412III wasn't in there but it still worked.
