High-def content and 802.11g/n?
Does the HD200 play high-def MPEG2 content smoothly over 802.11g? What about 802.11n? I ask about MPEG2 since I assume that's the format that would require the highest transfer bitrate...

It's been reported that 'g' won't work and 'n' might work. But a lot of hoops to jump through. Running cable is more reliable and, if you do it yourself, a lot cheaper.

Using n it works just fine here with the encore adapter and my airport base station. See also here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43492

Some have had success with that, but that's different than saying it works. Wireless, even "N," should be considered a last resort.

Or - given the price of that encore adapter - as an experiment. So far, I have seen no need to get another switch. And: somebody has got to test them.
I should mention, though, that this HD200 is only like 12 feet away from the basestation, and there are no typical sources of interference. If your a mac user, you can use istumpler - or any similar windows program - to check your place for other WL networks which often cause problems. |

I'm trying the wireless route with the recommended Enwin ENUWI-N adapter. Got my HD200 yesterday. So far I can't get the HD200 to connect to my network. It times out when trying to configure the wireless connection. I'm blaming the HD200 since the adapter works on my main computer, connects to my router immediately, and with no security enabled on my router, the connection still times out.
But from what I've read, anyone who gets a good connection streams HD content just fine. I wish I could attest to it now, but hopefully I can sometime this weekend. |
