Trial Version wants a "valid" Security Key

Don't know what to do, trying to run the trial but it claims that my key is not valid for this product.

What exact product are you trying to use as a trial, and have you used it as a trial previously?

Thanks for the reply - I guess I should have put that in eh? It's Sage Media Center 6.6 Trial - I "might" have put an earlier version on this test bed 5+ YEARS ago - before I bought into BTV - can't swear to it though.

What OS? There is no trial for SageTV on Linux.

If on Windows: are you trying to enter a trial key? If so, there is no such thing as a trial key -- you just use it w/o entering a key.

I am aware of this fact, YET the bloody thing IS STILL asking for one.

I am NOT trying to enter a "trial key" as there is none, YET is is asking me for one.

Asking you how? The exact text of the message (if any) might be helpful in figuring out exactly what's going on.

Good idea:

I start - try to start - the program, and I get: "The security key for this program currently stored on your system does not appear to be valid for this version of the program. Select yes to enter a new key, or No to revert to the default setting (if any)."

Selecting No: "This program requires a security key. If you have one, selct OK to enter it. After entering a valid key you will not be prompted again."

Selecting Yes: Gives me my name, and in the box below, waiting for "Key".

I'm running XP Pro SP3.

Did you run a newer version as a trial, then reverted to running an older version? If so, that trial probably won't work. What exact version of SageTV are you trying to use? What is the filename of the installer?

Are you trying to use a limited user account in Windows?

You could try: uninstall SageTV, delete the directory where SageTV had been installed, then reinstall.

I have uninstalled sagetv Media Center from my Imac. I downloaded the latest 6.6 version of the software (which is what I purchased in the first place about 5 or 6 weeks ago) and drag the app over to my apps folder. I then double click on it and it says that my trial period has ended, that is fine as I have a key right! Wrong! I click on enter key and "enter my key" it then tells me my key is invalid! I have uninstalled, rebooted, and re-downloaded, re-checked my key compared to the emails I got from Sagetv, to no avail. I am lost. I have sent an email for support from Sagetv but have heard nothing as of yet. if anyone could give me some pointers I would really appreciate it.

Remember this is on a Mac

Are you sure the key you bought is for the Mac product? A Windows or Linux key won't work on a Mac.

well it has been running fine for the last six weeks, then I thought I would try to install sagetvmc and it screwed it up. so I just un-installed and reinstalled, I work as a Sr Systems Administrator by day so I consider myself pretty tech savvy having said that I am fairly new to Mac's (bout a year and a half). Anyway like I said, I am using the same key that SageTV sent me, and am only using Sagetv Media Center on my mac. it is all I have installed, I dont have any other software installed ie: placeshifter etc. Thanks for the reply..

PS I guess that I should answer you initial question, yes it is for the Mac version of Sagetv here is a cut and paste from the email, I have obviously xxxx out the serial number

I wanted to get this out there in case anyone else has the same issue, this worked for me on my Imac

"Try this way to reinstall. Try this first. Make sure you stop the Sage
service in System Preferences then delete SageTV from the applications
folder. Then go into Library/Receipts and remove the SageTvServer pkg. And
in Library/LaunchDaemon remove tv.sage.SageTV.plist. Restart your machine
and verify that all those things are gone and you can empty the trash to
make sure.

Now install SageTV again to the applications folder. Now when running it
should prompt you to further configure Sage and let it do it. Does this
help?

Also make sure the Server is not running when inputting your key."
