HVR-2250 - two analog and two QAM sources at the same time?

I'm helping a friend set up a sagetv box with a hauppauge 2250. This card is theoretically capable of recording two cable (analog) programs at the same time, or two clear qam programs, or one cable and one qam program. But we can't figure out how to set up sage to do this. SageTV sees each tuner as either analog, or digital, but not both. Since most of the shows my friend records are HD (Sunday night stuff), it would be nice if sage could see either tuner as qam or analog. Right now it's one or the other.

I've looked in the manual and done some searching here, but to no avail. Any help appreciated - thanks.

Yes that's what I was asking. I guess he has to buy another card.

sic0048's statement is absolutely incorrect. To do what you are wanting to achieve you just add a new source on each tuner twice.

The first time you add a source for the tuner you select the analog input and the second time you select the digital input. Do that for both tuners.

Thank you so much John. I'm going over to my friend's a little later, this and other stuff to troubleshoot, I'll definitely give what you suggest a try. I thought it was a little surprising that Sage wouldn't be able to do that.

Just as FYI, Sage will only show two "analog" capture devices and not two analog and two digital. That is fine, you will find the digital tuner under the analog capture devices (seems kind of strange, but it works). Just be sure to setup two tuning devices per "analog tuner". In my case I have each analog capture device setup to record from composite (for my dish 311 receivers) and QAM. While the first 6 months owning the HVR2250 was a bit frustrating, they have really worked out the kinks and it is now one of my favorite tuners due to its flexibility and only cost me about $100 which I felt was very reasonable (oh and it is PCIE which makes it much more future proof).

Yeah we figured that part out. I thought it was weird that the devices were called 'analog' but also serve as digital source. Anyhow.

Now the hard part is to figure out which channels in the digital lineup are unencrypted HD QAM. Any shortcut to this? Other than trying all the ones with subchannel numbers?

The eventual goal is to have one program guide that contains the hd channels where possible with no sd duplicate. If there's a how-to or a thread on this somewhere...

Take a look here: How I remapped my QAM channels on a HVR 2250

I am about to order this and I was wondering if it shows up as 4 analog devices once set up in Sage. I wouldnt expect it to record 4 shows at one time but if I had 2 HD shows on my antenna at 8 PM then a show from my STB at 10 PM would that still work fine?

It shows up as two analog devices, but when you select the tuning source for each, among the options is Digital TV (I think that's what it was called). I haven't been able to get the digital tuner portion to work for ClearQAM (in SageTV, anyway) for me, but I think others have.

I just talked to Hauppauge support and they confirmed that it shows up as one device on the computer but Sage sees 4 inputs. I will order it and see how it does.

Sage should shows up as 2 devices unless it an old ver of SageTV
Hauppauage WinTV-7164 Capture
Hauppauage WinTV-7164 Capture #2
Or unless you have more then one HVR-2250 then #3, #4 and so on.

You can only record from 2 Source at one time with one HVR-2250 in the fellowing order
1 Digital (ATSC/QAM*) and 1 Analog (Video input/Air or Cable* Tuner)
2 Digital ATSC/QAM/Air or Cable Tuner
2 Analog (Video input/Air or Cable Tuner)
* This only work with Cable with QAM and Analog Tuner you can have both.

Plases keep in mind that 2250 is not anything like the HVR-1600, 1800 or 1850 which are Dual Source Record which have nice to see the 2250 make use of Both Digital Tuner same time as it Recoding Both Analog but far I know of it can't.

This wrong you can "float" between QAM and Analog tuners as long there it is Cable analog income.
