STP-200's running slow

Ive been a happy user of a 100, 200 and now another 200. All of which worked great until a couple of days ago when both 200's one wired one wireless now run really slowly. Menus take a age to open and video playback stutters. I have not made any config changes recently and cant think whats causing the problem. Placeshifter in and out of the network works fine. Any one else seen this before.

Nope no updates just uses the java installed with sage. I tried my 100 today and it works fine, HD recordings play well. HD recordings on the 200's stutter terrribley with no sound. Its obviously aproblem with them. Hoping for a reply back now from support.

I had a similiar problem and I updated the firmware and all is back to normal.

I updated one of mine but that didnt help. The problem goes away when i plug the HD200 into a homeplug rather than direct to the router. This then must bypass the router and link straight to the server which is on another homeplug. Nothing had been changed on the router so has anyone ant idea why the router is slowing down my traffic.

I find my router performance degrades over a few months. No idea why but power cycling the router seems to fix everything.

I know from installing megapixel IP cams that you can't use just any router/switch.

I personally bought a Dell 24 port rackmount unit and it handles all the switching on my LAN. It is 10/100 but has 2 gigabit ports to bring it back to the DVRs. I paid $18 for it shipped on fleabay. Remeber all these units are 10/100 so no need for all the ports to be gigabit but you need at least one to bring it back to the server.

I can tell you that most built in switches in Consumer routers are sub par. All you need to do is pick up a switch, run an ethernet cable from your router to your switch and plug all your HD200's (and your server) into the switch. Now the router is only being used for delving out IP addresses and all your network traffic is bypassing it. This is the setup most of us are using.

EDIT: Consumer grade routers were really only designed to handle internet traffic. In this case, your internet connection is always your bottleneck so the performance of the router itself matters very little (its like switching from 11b/g to 11n thinking that your internet will be faster).

Ive grabbed an old hub from work and will try that tonight. No settings were changed in the netgear router when it started going slow though so i still dont understand why it happened.

The hub worked, but now i have another piece of equipment that i need powered up constantly. Thanks for the help guys so glad to have sage back working as it should.
