Playing mkv files not working

Ok so I am a little new at playing mkv files so bear with me. I have an mkv file that is an x264 it will play but is very jerky and ff and rewind do not work. If I set always_use_dshow_player to false if I set it to true it will not play at all. when I open the file with graphedit it is using DivX H.264 Decoder and the Haali spitter icon is up on the task bar. No matter what I change in Directshow filter manager it is always the DivX H.264 decoder that is used. I have Powere dvd 9 installed as well as several other decoders but non of them seem to be being used.I am running this on Vista sp1 with a dual 2.2 Intel E1500 with 2 gig ram. Can anyone do a little step by stem setup to play these files? Please?

Do you have any codec installed that can handles these? (MKV container and x264 video codecs?

What hardware (CPU and Video) are you using?

I am running on dual 2.2 Intel E1500 with 2 gig ram with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 pro video card and several codecs installed, PDVD9, divx h264, and 1 or 2 more that I tried. But why deos graphedit only use divx h264 no matter what I choose in direct show filter manager, I think that might be the problem.
