Question HD & SPDIF playback is slow

Hey guys... new user here.
I'm running SageTV on my MachBook Pro with an HDHomeRun box.
(2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M/GT 256MB)
Recording / playback of 1080i video works great, even when watching recorded shows while still recording.
When I switch SageTV's Audio to SPDIF though the video plays extremely slow / stutters around and there is no sound at all.
I'm not sure if my computer can't handle the amount of data?
This shouldn't be a problem though... I have played at least 720 video with 5.1 AC/3 audio in the past, no problem. iTunes & QuickTime are able to send AC/3 through SPDIF but not SageTV?
Help... please... thanks so much!
Chris =)

I had the same issue after restoring SageTV/MC from my previous Mini's Time Machine BU. I switched my Sage's audio to SPDIF, and then my video started playing first too slow, then too fast. Audio was silent. I ran into all kinds of strange issues and since I was not too deep into the migration, I decided to start over with a clean install of Snow Leopard and then SageTV and MC. It installed without a hitch and is back to it's trusty old self. Sorry if it comes down to that for you. - MB

I hate to bring up an old thread, but this is right on the money of what happen to me.

I'm running SageTV 6 OSX edition. The machine is a mac mini late 2009 with 2.66ghz, 4 gig ram, nVidia 9400M w/ 256mb shared ram. The playback is fine with analog out setting on in setup for SageTV. I switched it the SPDIF out, and the audio drops in/out. On my reciever (Denon 3803) shows what channels are being inputted and outputted, and it shows the channels for 5.1 and it's constantly flashing. The video actually played fine for live TV.

I tried a game I recently recorded that had 5.1 audio and HD video, and I had the same intermittent audio, and the the video would play to fast like in the OP.

I know the machine can handle HD video and AC3 5.1 audio. I've got videos that are 1080p and 5.1 AC3 or DTS and play without hitch in Plex, and Boxee. I tried the game video in Plex, and it ran fine.

My guess it is the video player. Has anyone come up with a solution for this the problem if they have encountered it?

I've encountered this more than once. I was never able to locate a specific remedy other than a reinstall of Sage, which fixed it every time.

**UPDATE - I discovered on my Mac Mini, that when I changed the audio output in SageTV settings to SPDIF, that my video playback was stuck in fast forward with no way to slow it down. When I switched the audio output setting back to "Analog," my playback returned to normal speed with all correct transport functionality. No need to do a complete reinstall. Heavens no.
