HD-PVR - No Signal - Do I need to install Total Media Extreme or just the drivers?

I have an HD-PVR working okay on windows XP for about a year. Last few weeks I started getting no signal.

I decided to rebuild my computer because of some other issues and to see if I could clean this up.

I installed the HD-PVR windows drivers(I am running windows 7 if that matters) but I still see 'No Signal' on screen.

Do I need to install the total media extreme software that came on the original CD? Any insight on what no signal means? Does that mean the computer to HD-PVR link is bad or does that mean the HD-PVR isnt capturing an input?

In my experience sage will give you an error message if the problem is with the HD-PVR. My guess is a "no signal" screen is because your cable or satelite box is getting no signal. The HD-PVR is working correctly, it's just seeing a "no signal" box.

You should only need the drivers, however if you're using the IR blaster you will need to install the whole software package to get it working.

I guess I'd work my way backward, and maybe you have. Do you have a small monitor/set you can hook to you STB to check it? If it has component in, try that way.

I've used TME as a cross-check for tuning issues in the HD-PVR to see if they were consistent across Sage and TME. That may be worth a try as well.

I'm just tossing this stuff out. I even tracked an issue of tiling back to a bad splitter at one point about 4 months ago, which has since never returned.

You do not need to install TME unless you want to use the machine for playback. If you are using extenders or other clients for playback, there is no need to install TME. I have not installed TME on my last two machines that I used for recording HD-PVR outputs and everything worked just fine.

Also, the "No Signal" probably has nothing to do with your STB. There is something wrong with the setup and Sage isn't reading the HD-PVR correctly.

I would really recommend that you read and follow the directions in my "How To" thread. There is link in my signature. I have found that the specific order you install things can make a difference, especially if you are using the built-in blaster. I realize some people have gotten the system to work when they installed in a different order, but my directions have seemed to help many people that were having trouble. So I won't go as far as saying it is the only method to use, but I certainly have seen lots of successful installations when people did use my method (and no failures as far as I know).

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
