How to get "list" view of imported videos?

I can't figure out how to switch from the window/thumbnail view to a
list view when browsing imported videos (in folder mode)?

What I want is the same "list" UI that I have when it's connected to a
server and browsing Sage recordings.

The standalone UI is a trimmed down version of the UI available as an extender connected to a SageTV server & has no option for single-column mode in that browser.

OK, then how do I get the single-column "list" mode when browsing
imported videos using the HD200 operating as an extender? I don't
see any mode or layout options in the video menu other than
rows/columns.

To use single-column mode, set it to use 1 column.

If that isn't what you mean, then I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Thanks! In the recordings menu settings, there is a "style" field
where you can choose "rows" vs. "thumbnails". I was naively looking
for the same setting in the the videos menu settings.

I've just noticed another recordings/videos inconsistency (IMO a bug):
the "delete" key works when watching a recording, but not when
watching an imported video.

A lot of the basics you are asking about is covered in the PDF manual that is installed with SageTV, or can be downloaded separately. See the section of chapter 3 covering the video browser regarding deleting files. It explains how to enable deletion of imported videos.

OK, I've re-read that chapter, and I don't see anything about enabling
the delete key during video playback. All I can find is the "Allow
Video Deletion" option in the Advanced Video Browser Options menu.

I already had that enabled, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do
with the problem I mentioned. It controls whether or not you're
allowed to delete video files from the browser -- at least that's what
the manual says (and my experiments appear to confirm that).

The problem I mentioned was

I've also read and searched through chapter 4 on video playback, and I
can't find anything relevent in that chapter either.

Sorry, you are right; I missed that you meant during playback. So, yes, delete doesn't work there for imported media.

It's obviously not a big deal, but it's an odd inconsistency in the UI
that I keep tripping over. It's compounded by the fact that if you're
watching an imported video and hit "stop" on the HD200 remote, you're
not usually returned to the same menu item where you pressed "play".

IOW, pressing "stop" then "delete" doesn't work either -- since after
pressing "stop" the selected menu item has usually (but not always)
changed from the video title which was selected when "play" was
pressed to one of the category headings (title, folder, playlist).

So, to delete a video while you're watching it, you have to press
"stop". Hit a few arrow keys to navigate back down to the video title
you were watching, then press "delete".

That's rather clumsy compared to the way it works when watching a
recording, where you just press "delete".

Is there some technical reason that the UI for browsing, watching, and
deleting imported videos needs to work differently than browsing,
watching, deleting imported videos? We users are a dim enough lot to
start with -- you really don't want to have to try to teach us two new
tricks when one would do.

Despite my whinging, the imported video UI in SageTV is still an order
of magnitude better and more consistent than the one in MythTV.
Myth's imported video plugin was a third-party effort that didn't even
use the same player software (perhaps that's changed recently) and had
a menu system that was a bit of a dogs breakfast.

I thought that focus issue when returning to the video browser was changed already -- are you using the lastest HD200 firmware and/or SageTV v6.6.2 with a fully updated STV on the server? If you are, then I'll make a note to check it out.

Both are as "late" as I can figure out how to make them. I'm running
beta 20100208 on the HD200. Both the HD200 and the server say there
are no updates availble when I select "update". Both were restarted
after the last update.

It's definitely broken in extender mode. I haven't noticed it running
in stand-alone mode.
