ERROR (-5,0x80040200)

I just installed (fresh) Beta 7.0.12 on Windows 7. For MKV videos w/DTS audio I'm getting:

There was a Playback Error in playback: Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040200):
There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback.

I've tried various audio decoder settings but can't seem to get past this error.

Thanks!

After further research, I found some other threads that provided a fix. For my Windows 7 32 bit system, I did the following:

1. Using regedit search for 'EnableSageTVStreamDemux' and change the setting from 1 to 0.
2. Reboot Windows.

MKV files with DTS audio now play back without generating the sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040200)

This appears to have been a problem for several months now. I'm not sure why it's not been fixed. Guess I'll file a bug report.

Thanks for listing this workaround. I just ran into this recently after ripping one of my music BDs to mkv (with DTS audio). Strange enough this is one of the few BDs that did actually play natively as m2ts (since it's noy VC-1), but the rip only played after changing this setting.

Anyhow, do you know what kind of side effects this setting change might have?

Yes, there is a more correct solution to this problem. Here is the reply SageTV Support sent after reporting the bug (the suggested changes worked for me):

Quote:
Changing that registry setting will disable using SageTV's own demux for
this and will then use the same one that WMP is using.

I just tested some MKVs w/ DTS audio and they worked fine for me. Try
setting these properties in your Sage.properties file (or
SageClient.properties if using the service or client):

videoframe/dca_audio_decoder_filter=AC3Filter
videoframe/dts_audio_decoder_filter=AC3Filter

(create them if they're not there). We're going to change these to be
defaults for the next version so this would happen automatically if they
haven't been set. Let me know if those changes fix the problem (also put the
registry setting back to 1).

Cheers,

Seems like this requires AC3Filter, which I'm not using. It doesn't work with the MPC Audio Decoder that I'm using. So I'd rather leave the Sage splitter disabled.

AC3 filter is included in the SageTV install.

Yes, but it's open source similar to MPC or ffdshow. Furthermore it's an old version that's not configured correctly, if you just plan to use spdif. I know that it has it's value if you need ac3 decoding (or encoding), but that's not for everyone.

And then there's the native Windows decoder (on 7) as well that you can use, which means no additional decoder is required.

This doesn't explain, why the internal splitter apparently doesn't connect to other decoders except ac3filter.

I have similar error:

Sage Playback Exception: (-5,0x8007000e). There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback.

This is a BluRay with Dolby True HD sound.

I tried setting the videoframe dca/dts properties noted above--but this did not help. Any ideas?
