Blu-rays to standard DVD's???

Hello,
I know this may sound strange but my need is this because I only have one Hi Def TV and two other standard Def TV's and all three are being driven by 3 extenders. I already have a few hundred DVD's ripped to my WHS server and I finally got my process figured out to rip my few Blu-rays to my WHS to view via the extenders. I want to have the ability to watch any movie in any room and also want to view the extras/bonus footage that I can't get via the Blu-ray rips.

So, my question is, how can I convert the entire Blu-ray disk to a normal DVD format so it is viewable on my other extenders and the occasional road trip with the in-car DVD player. I don't want to have buy both formats and would like a program, or two, that would let me do this.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

You don't. At least not in such a way as to get menu and extras functionality.

Yeah, there's really no way to translate the complex bluray menus (which are actually java apps) to a simple DVD menu structure. You could, if needing it for in the car, compress the main feature to a DVD with just about any DVD authoring software out there after you've ripped it to a single video file.

(Or, you could go my route, and run Placeshifter in your car.. ;-)

And just in case it's not clear, there's no conversion necessary for playing BDs on SDTVs, well not if you're using HD extenders.

stanger89,
Thanks for the heads up. I was afraid of that. Thanks for the clairification on the BD's on SDTV's. I didn't know they could do that. What do you suggest for playing BD's on my in-car DVD's? Just main movie? If so, what is the best way to burn it in terms of format so the DVD play can play it? What program is best to do that? I'm sorry but this BD to DVD is just new to me.

Thanks,
Chuck

Fuzzy,
Thanks for that info. When you say authoring software, what do you mean? What programs and what format is best for normal DVD's? Sorry, just new to Blu-ray to DVD conversion.

Thanks,
Chuck

There really is no bluray to dvd conversion. The bluray will play fine on the sdtv. The only problem you will have is audio. I use "clownbd" to convert the bluray audio to AC3. Once this is done everything plays fine. No menus on bluray just the move.

Hunter69,
Thanks for the input. I found out what you said about them playing on SDTV's, and with the new HD300's, I don't need to covert the audio anymore. However, I still have the need to create them to DVD's for the road trips. I really don't want to have to buy the DVD, if I have the BD already, just for road trips. I hope that there will be a way in the future, but for now, it appears just to do the main movie to a vob file and play it like that.

Thanks,
Chuck
