Yes and still baffles me a bit why media streamers are limiting themselve when gb is kind of the standard no adays on new pcs.

That being said 10/100mbs Is more than what is needed even for the highest bit blueray I know of.

Gigabit would probably cost more and I think require more power. It might even require a different interconnect bus (think PCI vs PCIe) which may complicate things. This is just a stab in the dark.

In any case, it couldn't possibly stream more than 100Mb even with the fattest blu-ray video, so I'm not sure why it would even be necessary. Is there a reason you want gigabit?

Edit: If they wanted to give us gigabit, they could have gone with the Sigma SMP8656 instead. I'm sure money was a factor.

mpcclub has mentioned that some sigma chips have bugs in their gigabit implemenations......haven't followed the details myself.......but why do you need it for video and audio?

I removed this question from the FAQ entry topic - the info is already stated on p. 3 of the HD300 manual and on the product info page on SageTV's web site.

For some of us Blu-ray is just a middle-ground consumer format. I regularly pull unencrypted 75+ Mbps video off C-band and Ku-band, and that can start to get dicey over 10/100. Less readily available video is even higher.

Personally I'd be more worried about the SOC/hardware decoder being a limiting factor in these sorts of devices than the Ethernet connection.

There are OTA network feeds to the stations that can hit 40 Mbps. These are a substantial improvement over normal OTA reception, particularly when comparing to stations with several subchannels. But the real gold is found in the other feeds and 24/7 programming, not all backhauls to the networks, that can hit double this rate. Surprisingly, there is a lot of high-value programming available nowhere else or available elsewhere at much lower quality.
