HD100 failure and service lockup?

I have an HD100 that is dying (making the dreaded hissing sound... I've already ordered a new HD300 and some caps to fix the HD100!).

The extender still works fine other than the noise. But I am seeing crashing of the SageTVService on my server, where a Windows error pops up indicating that the service has failed or stopped working (I can't remember which). Obviously this prevents me from using Sage on the extenders until I restart it - though all I have to do is open the Service control on the server and start it, and it works fine thereafter. It seems like this is happening more and more frequently in the past few days, and I think it only seems to occur when recent activity (turning on and off) with the "going bad" HD100 has occurred.

I've filed a bug report to Sage, but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone knew whether a dying/malfunctioning extender could be the cause of the crashes of SageTVService.

Mine didn't do anything like that when it died. Maybe try a day with HD-100 unplugged and see if the sage server works fine?
