HD 300--Problem Streaming DVD's
Hooked up 2 HD 300's last night to replace HD 100's. I am able to play HDTV files (recorded from both HD PVR and HDHR tuners), ripped Blu rays, large MKV's and everything else I have tried--except for standard ripped DVD's.
The DVD's were ripped in a folder structure via DVD Fab and are stored on my NAS. Same place the blu ray rips are stored/played from. Everything is running on a wired gigabit network. When I try to play a ripped DVD, the picture and sound both stutter badly--really badly. These same DVD's played fine on the HD 100, and as I said, blu rays streamed from the same NAS also play fine. Same thing happens with both HD 300's. I've tried different the different audio settings (HDMI bitstream, HDMI PCM, etc) and tried different video settings (native resolution switching, different resolutions, etc) all to no avail. Since this is happening on known good DVD rips I am wondering if there is some type of firmware problem. I know the network connection is good (able to play blu ray rips) and these played flawlessly on the old HD 100's. Setup: HD 300's (updated firmware upon initial installation last night) Connected via HDMI to receivers (Onkyo 805 and Onkyo 507) Wired Gigabit network connections Blu Rays and DVD's played from a Thecus N7700 (7 x 1 TB) in a Raid 5 configuration Any ideas? Interesting that you post this. I have a 200 that I see the same problem on occasion. It's only with DVD ripped to folders. if I do a 'soft' restart of the 200 (remote power off, home button to turn back on), then the DVD will play fine.
I just updated the firmware on the 200 yesterday to the newest beta (i had one that was a few weeks old; forget the exact version date). I haven't tried it out to see if anything is fixed. I wonder if there is some firmware bug (that's common to the 200 and 300), or is this is just a total coincidence.

Did you have problems when using media player mode or extender mode?
If you can please send us a bug report with logs. |

Neither hard reset nor soft reset changes the behavior.....skipping, stuttering, freezed picture. I'll submit a bug report tonight.

Mine are all in extender mode. I'll let the updated firmware run for a bit and see if it helps. (we rarely watch DVDs too, so it may be a bit for the error is reproduced.)

Thanks. Mine all are in Extender mode as well. The bug on my system starts as soon as select a DVD from the Videos folder and try to play it.

You're not alone, civerson. I have the exact same problem with my HD300 I received today (in extender mode). It appears I've gone through the same motions you have:
...tried different audio settings (HDMI bitstream, HDMI PCM, etc) and tried different video settings (native resolution switching, different resolutions, etc) all to no avail. Basically, everything works flawlessly...except DVD rips. A lot of stuttering. My HD100 that I moved into the bedroom still works great with DVDs. One thing I'd like to note--which is probably unrelated or irrelevant--is that my HD300 runs pretty darn hot. I spoke with a friend of mine who also received his HD300 today and he said that his was "barely warm" after running it for a few hours. He also doesn't have the stuttering problem I see. I'll open a ticket with logs as soon as I can tomorrow. |

Same problem here with my HD200s. This problem started with some of the newer beta firmwares, not sure which because I dont regularly watch ripped DVDs. Funny thing is that ripped Blu-rays play fine. I was hoping my in transit HD300 would solve the problem. I guess not.

Sage Support is on it. I am sending them log files now. I'll let them know that I am not the only one with this issue.

I just submitted a bug report too.
Just curious. Is everyone reporting this issue using DVD Fab to rip? I am, and I saw that civerson4 is too. Can't see why DVD Fab would be doing anything to make the rips unplayable, but you never know.....

My rips play perfectly on the HD 100 (just switched one of my HD 300's to confirm). I don't think it is the DVD Fab rips....it is something with the HD 300/Sage 7.0.xx beta (I am running beta 15).

Are these full menu rips? Just curious because I am not seeing it but don't use menu rips.
As for the hear comment I asked the same thing mine are even a bit hot when off. It is because the case is the heatsink on the extender is iirc. Made since to me |

Yes, the rips that do not play correctly are "full disc" rips with menus. MKV rips play perfectly.

For the folks that are having problems: are you running on wired or wireless?
I have no problems on my HD200 with DVDs (with menus), but I don't have an HD300 yet (shipment tracking says Friday) so I can't confirm with my setup (all wired). --John |

Wired Gigabit network. I can stream blu rays and mkv files (that are much larger) and my old HD 100 plays the DVD rips flawlessly. It isn't my network.

I would bet it has something to do with the way the menu's are being read on the latest firmware. I also saw a thread in the beta thread about this.

Oof... hope this gets sorted quick. I have way too many full rips right now.

Also, I just checked in stand-alone mode and DVD's work fine there. Edit: Oh yea, forgot to mention, I'm running Sage 7.0.13 Last edited by AzTech; 09-16-2010 at 09:08 AM. |

Any progress? My 300 arrives Monday and this will destroy my WAF

FWIW - Running DVDs with menu rips work fine for me. Ripping software is DVD Shrink. HD300 and Linux Server 7.0.16
