sagemc_menu.xml & sagetv7
I am about to upgrade to sagetv 7 and I currently have customized menus with sagetv6.
Will sagetv 7 allow me to use the same "sagemc_menu.xml" with no modifications? Or do I need to make changes? Thanks in advance. |

this thread will answer your question. and sadly you'll be disappointed. As of today there is no customizable main menu plugin for v7. Everyone's hope is that sage will build it into the core product

It is possible to use the old SageTV6 User Interface with Sage7 and then you can use the Dynamic Menus (and most of the other version 6 STVi's) - however if you do this, you lose the pretty new Sage7 interface and you lose the ability to use the plugin manager.
It is also possible to use SageMC with Sage7 (I believe you can even install it from the Sage7 plugin manager). Again, you will see an interface that looks like the old SageMC under Sage6 if you do this. Currently these are the only 2 options for dynamic menus. So far, Sage has refused to comment on whether they plan to add dynamic menus to the core, but it appears that they will not do so in time for the first official Sage 7 release, and maybe not at all. There are a couple of other STV's (complete new user interfaces, similar to SageMC) that are currently under development by members of the community. These projects are called Phoenix and Ortus. It appears that they will both offer some kind of menu customization (as well as many other cool features such as automatic metadata and fanart retrieval). Unfortunately, we have only been given a few glimpses of screen shots for these projects and no estimated completion dates. So, maybe we will see some beta releases of these before the end of the year, but who knows? So for now, if you want the Sage7 style interface and you want to customize the menus, the only option is to use Studio to make your changes yourself.
