Extremely slow performance
I just finished getting my new HD300 installed in the TV in the bedroom. It is connected to the Sage computer in the living room, and I can see everything. That's good.
However, the delay when surfing up and down is extremely slow (lagging), and when trying to play any recorded show (which I can see, so that's good), is unwatchable. There is about 2 seconds of video and sound, then it just hangs. Don't know what the problem is. The main computer is only connected to the network via wireless. The HD300 is directly connected to the router. HELP!!!! |

Am I understanding you correctly that the sageserver is connected wirelessly?
If so I would find a way to hardwire it. There is a enough people that have issues with wired networks.

Yes, the Sage server is connected wirelessly.
It seems that it takes very very long to load any screen. Graphics seem to take a long time. I'm currently watching an AVI file that seems to be woorking (no skipping or studdering). However, it took about 5 minutes to click through to get to the video (from using the HD300 connected to the server). |

I assume the SageTV computer is not physically close to the router. Does the performance increase drastically when you connect the SageTV computer to the router with a long Eithernet cable or move the SageTV computer closer to the router so you can use a short Eithernet cable?

it's across the house. I suppose I could try to connect the sage computer to the router. I just finished using a different router (linksys instead of the u-verse one). It appears to have no effect (still slow).
I guess I need to try to use a long cable. That would be terrible if that's the problem as the room with the computer is vaulted and can't easily run a cat cable. I really thought the HD300 could be used in a wireless fashion. I guess I didn't figure it mattered which end was wireless. |

After you try it hard wired in testing and determine that's the problem (more than likely is) then I'd look into ethernet over powerline or ethernet over coax. I've heard the latter is better, although I have no personal experience with either since I have unlimited access to attic and unfinished basement.

I am using a Belkin Powerline setup and it works great. However, YMMV due to the way your house is wired or the circuits are set up, so no guarantees. I have a Netgear WDR3700 router which is a good one and I still prefer the Powerline over the wireless functions of this router.
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Powerli...8102238&sr=8-1 The Belkin Powerline unit I have features 3 ports, ( 150 dollars ) because so many items in my home theater have network access capability now. I use one of the Belkin ports to connect to a 4 port switch and even this works fine. I have the SageTV HD300 and server connected (they are close together) to the switch as well as the network router, which is in another area. This really works well when viewing things off the server, because they can communicate off the switch and stay off the network unless the server needs something from the Internet. What is nice too, is if the Internet goes down, gets slow, whatever, the SageTV still works with anything on the server and transferring big photos or playing a Blu-ray rip to the Sage HD300 does not bog down the network. For your room, you could get the less expensive single port Belkin for around 90 bucks on Amazon. If you want to try powerline, some of the guys on the Roku forum have had good luck with this very inexpensive unit from Monoprice, but I have not used it. However, its only 40 bucks and I would think you could send it back if you did not like it in less than 30 days. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 Last edited by MovieFreak; 10-26-2010 at 08:34 AM. |

Problem solved. It was the wireless. Wired connection is wicked fast (no latency). Now I just have to route the CAT5 through the house (that's the hard part).

It took me 2 weeks of climbing around my attic, drilling holes through the top of the wall studs, and cutting outlet boxes in my dry wall to get everything wired up. But damn, it looks great and now every room has Cat5e wiring ran to it!

yea, I agree. It's a vaulted ceiling in the living room, so that makes it hard. That's the project for the weekend. Right now there's a CAT5 cable running on the floor through the house....that'll have to be cleaned up quickly.
