WHS reinstall - use SSD?

I need to reinstall my whs as the system drive is failing, loads of bad blocks. Is there any benefit to using an SSD as far as Sage is concerned. Will it speed up menu's/access times etc if I have 4 or 5 clients connected? Any other benefit.

Cost is not an issue in this case as I have an SSD in one of the HTPC's that is being replaced with a HD300, however it could be stuck in a laptop if there will be no benefit here.

Hi rhinoman,

I have a SSD for my WHS system drive - For me, the answer is yes the system does seem faster - thumbnails seem to load faster as they are stored on the C: (or D: if you have SMM).

One point you need to consider is WHS will not install on a system disk less than 80gb (iirc).

I installed on a larger normal drive, then resized & moved the install over to my 64gb SSD.

Cheers

Can I ask what method you used for moving the install to the SSD, it might save a fresh install for me?

Be sure to align the partition to the memory grid for increased performance as per your manuf. suggestions.

Can you elaborate, a clean install or a clone with the above hack?

Are you running Sage on it, any notiecable difference?

i run it on a clone with the above mentioned hack - the problem i had (until i found a solution yesterday) was to come from a 500 GB disk down to a 64 GB SSD although only some 30 gigs of this harddisk were used (drive c and d). i could overcome that problem with acronis migrate easy 7.0 which is able to clone a disk to a smaller one in "manual mode". cloned it - made the registry hacks and the "uniqueid hack" and it works like a charm. difficult to say how the sage performance improved because i also upgraded my cpu some days ago - but the whs server is now the fastest thing i ever put my fingers on ... i enjoy rebooting now
my clients (3x mediamvps) work without any noticeable lag now - but this could also be related to the cpu upgrade - ah i should mention i still run 6.6 and might not upgrade, as i want to maintain my mediamvp performance.

i should also mention that in the last step of the hack, mentioned above, you might need to delete duplicated entries in the last step (dosdevices step), otherwise your drive extender would still run into difficulties, but that's not a big deal.
