Nice to know it is not just the HD100s that have problems with placeshifting. Version 7.0.13 worked beautifully for me running on an XP Pro machine and streaming to an HD100. Then I upgraded the Sage server to Win7 64-bit and I get constant lockups on the HD100 followed by the box shutting itself off (using any version of Sage 7 and I tried them all). Just thought I would throw that info out there.

Anyway, there is one additional setting in the Sage.properties file you might want to look at for your problems placeshifting to the HD300:

miniplayer/min_bandwidth_for_no_transcode

Take a look at that line. If it is set to less than 10000000 (10 million), then you should try bumping it up. I always set mine to 20 million, like this:

miniplayer/min_bandwidth_for_no_transcode=20000000

What happens is the server thinks it has enough bandwidth to just stream content without transcoding it with fast internet connections, and so things get all wonky.

Oh, filing a bug report would be helpful to get all this fixed so at least the HD boxes can work as well as the Placeshifter software does.

Does placeshifting on a client work a lot better than a box? That is interesting to know and curious why it would make a difference. I leave this location in a couple days so my testing will become moot but I was thinking of giving a box to my father-in-law so he can enjoy my library. I will check out that line and do some testing.

Thanks!

From my properties file:

miniplayer/align_iframes_on_seek=true
miniplayer/allow_transcoding=true
miniplayer/bwstats=false
miniplayer/dvd_debug=false
miniplayer/forced_max_push_size=0
miniplayer/min_bandwidth_for_no_transcode=2000000
miniplayer/num_reseek_attempts=3
miniplayer/push_buffer_transfer_increment=32768
miniplayer/seek_diff_for_reseek=2000

Add another 0 to the miniplayer/min_bandwidth_for_no_transcode line to make it:

I've tried that before, and no matter what the server kept on transcoding(running sagetranscoder.exe-i think is the name). I had even set it to some ridiculously high values.

My thoughts on what was supposed to happen after making these changes is that it wouldn't transcode and i would get a great HQ picture, but probably choppy performance, because even a 10mbps upstream at my server location wouldn't be able to handle NO transcoding. Sadly, that didn't happen for me and it still transcoded.

Regardless of that testing, what we need is for transcoding to happen but at a higher quality. Then my hd300 could be of use as a placeshifter, and I like you could buy boxes to put in multiple geographical locations..
