Original Air Date?

I'm using the default v7 stv, and I just started using BMT for the first time. I have a large collection of tv shows in a folder structure that I am retrieving metadata for. When I look at the metadata in sagetv, it shows the data that the file in question was added to my library, not the date it originaly aired. Is there a way I can change this to show the original air date? My files are named like this:

show name - 1x07 - episode name

I was having a hard time retrieving any metadata until I enabled: "Parse Display Title for TV Series Name for Fanart Lookup"

This doesn't sound like bmt handled any of your files. You should not need "Parse Display Title for TV Series Name", since that is ONLY for fanart lookup, and it's only needed if your files are not scanned by bmt. ie, most people would never need to turn that on.

If you browse the file using bmt web ui, does it show correct metadata for description, etc? Original Air date should be set to the date the show aired automatically if bmt scanned the file and found a match.

It is entirely possible that I am confused I have been reading everything I can about BMT for the last 48 hours. BMT is finding the correct metadata for the episodes, including the air date. For some reason sagetv is showing the date the files were added to the computer however.....

It could be that sagetv is showing the date/time of the actual file and it is not using the original air date at all. Depending on the plugins, some may use that field, other may choose to use the date/time on the file.

I'm using the default library/folders view. What is the recommend plugin that best displays metadata retrieved by BMT? I noticed that there was a client version of BMT is this an alternate library viewer?

There are a number of fanart plugins that use phoenix fanart. Check the sticky section for a post called "SageTV7 plugins that use Fanart" (or something like that).

Imported shows will have two dates. The airing date (which will be grabbed from the file timestamp) and the original air date, which is populated by bmt. Sage will display he date that is being used for the sor method. So, change your sort order to oad, and it should display what you want..

Fuzzy, where is the sort order? I've been looking everywhere for it and can't find it. Are you saying I can do this while using the default v7 stv?

Yeah, press the Options commend (by default, the ESC key). there are a number of options that can be chosen, from filtering and sorting, to display settings.

I've gone completly through that menu and didn't find any sorting methods related to airing date. The only options I see are folder, dvd/bluray,catagories, etc. Is there a hidden option I need to enable?

Oh, I just realized you are browsing in folder view. No, there, the only sort is alphabetical i believe. To get better sorting/filtering, you'd have to move them into the tv library. (Sage doesn't expect series and episode type information for imported videos).

Is there any tweaks I can do in the properties file to get it to display that kind of metadata in the video library? Sorry if we got off of the subject of bmt. The video library and folder view are the only thing that really works well for my purposes.

No, there are no setting in the .properties file that would affect that. the only way to fundamentally change the way a display works is in Studio.

Out of curiosity, why what is keeping you in the folder view instead of using the more 'advanced' views?

I have 120+ different tv shows archived, with 5+ seasons of each, and 1000+ movies. I like some of the other display methods, but most of them only allow a few media items to be presented on the screen at a time. The default/folder view allows me to see no less than 16 media items at a time. I realize you can use the buttons on the remote to jump to the area you want to go, but we have never been fond of that. The default stv/folder view just does a really nice job of presenting but organizing all the tv shows and their different seasons, and keeping the movies in their own folder. If they were all in the same directory, finding something would be a nightmare.

The number of items displayed is no different between folders, titles, DVD/BD, or even Recordings views. Go into menu options and you can change how the items are displayed.

You can try some other plugins like CVF that offer more sort options under the folder views (and other tweaks).

Interesting, for a short time one season of one show I was importing metadata for displayed the original air date in the default stv. It actualy displayed it as "originaly aired on", with the correct date. I may have to explore the .properties file that contains the metadata, to see if I can figure out how to reproduce this. Sagetv seemed to be confused while it was loading all the metadata, and it displayed until it was finished loading. Thoughts?

I just confirmed that if you monitor media files while sagetv is discovering their newly added metadata files, sagetv will temporarily display the OAD instead of the date/duration. The fact that sagetv can do this leads me to believe that there must be a way to trick sagetv into doing this all the time. I have to believe there are a few users out there who would be interested in this functionality in the default stv.
