Using a Win.biz Backup from 7.0.23 in 7.1.15

Well, I recently was making some changes in Sage Beta (7.1.15) and had to shut down the SageTV service. After it was shut down, I made a backup of the wiz.bin and sage.properties in case I screwed something up. Well, I did and I had to restore the backup. The only problem was that the backup was corrupt. I came to find out it was because the Sage service never shut down completely when I made the backup. So, long story short, I had to revert to my last good backup which was from 7.0.23 on 3/16 (not too long ago!). Once I did this, everything looked pretty good. Initially however, only 3 upcoming recordings appeared, which made sense since they were ones that still existed in the 3/16 database. I went to my Favorites and everything looks fine there. Then, after a half hour or so, all of the additional upcoming recordings showed up. Here is the issue, the first 3 recording that showed up instantly show recording on HD channels. All of the other upcoming recordings however, show being recorded on non HD channels. What is causing this? I thought all recordings were supposed to default to HD unless you specifically specify otherwise in the favorites manager. Also, I checked my guide to make sure the HD channels existed and they did. Could this be due to weirdness from using a 7.0.23 wiz.bin? Either way, does anyone know how to make future recordings 'snap out' of this behavior and return to defaulting to HD recordings? Thanks.

just me, but i would uninstall 7.1.15, install 7.0.23, recover your backup, then upgrade to v7.1.5

I took your suggestion and downgraded back to 7.0.23 and restored the old wiz.bin file. I still got the same issue. However, when I went into the channel lineup and started disabling/enabling channels that the upcoming recordings were showing on, this got it to snap out of it. I presume this was because it was forcing an EPG update. Anyway, all is well now (aside from lost data from the last 2 weeks). I have learned two important things in this process.
  • Always read the forum sticky 10 times, then make the changes in SageTV
  • When using Windows Services to stop the SageTV service, be sure that the sagetvservice.exe is not still running. Wiz.bin backups don't work too well when the service is running.
