Fall back from Version 7 to Version 6.6

I have run version 6.6 for awhile now. It is set up the way we like it. I've loaded the trial version of 7 and some pieces we like but others we don't. The main issue we have is that it doesn't import movies and music the same way that version 6.6. Same directory and everything, just different behavior. Is there any way to roll back to version 6.6 without a complete uninstall of version 7 and reinstall of version 6.6? Doing that will cause me to loose all previous configurations that work perfectly under 6.6.

Thank you!

I think you might be in trouble unless you have a backup of your old 6.6 install. I don't think the SageTV database file (wiz.bin) from version 7 is compatible with version 6 since there have been quite a few changes to the database format.

What issues are you having with importing files? If you can share you problems, we might be able to help you fix them.

Also, you can still run the old interface from 6.6 on SageTV 7. Setup > Detailed Setup > Advanced > Set Full UI Package. Go up a directory, and choose SageTV3. Then choose SageTV3.xml and it should be the old interface.

I do have the old 6.6 files in another directory.
I do like the speed of the 7 version better.
The main problems I have so far are:

When I put new music into the directory on my server (same place that I did with the 6.6 version) it does not appear in the version 7 interface. It is buried may layers deeper which won't work for my family.

I also like the SageMC_169 UI. I know that it will run over version 7 even though not officially supported. What i can't stand is the constant pop-ups that tell me I am running version 7 with a UI that requires version 6.6 or newer. Of course version 7 is newer.

Lastly, at this is probably just splitting hairs, I don't like the navigation with the default version 7 UI to access my video content. Yes, something that i can get used to and adapt to, but still a pain to re-educate the family and mixed with everything else, just a pain.

I am torn because I do like some of the version 7 features!

THank you for any thoughts!

if you are stuck on the sageMC ui then you will def love Phoenix when it is relaesed to the masses. here is a link so you can see teh sageMC like interface option.

What don't you like about it exactly? If you do not like the default UI there are other GREAT ui replacement projects out there such as Phoenix mentioned above (still in private beta) , Diamond which is already release and AWESOME!, and then project Ortus.. Take a look around the forums. you may find that the benefits of V7 far outweigh the few negatives it has.

Trust me, with ortus, phoenix, and diamond the v7 experience is very good. Any one of those will make v6 feel very dated. Even as good as sagemc is.

IIRC there's a SageMC "plugin" for V7 from the plugins menu so that should let you run SageMC on V7.

Also v7 ships with the V6 UI if you want it.

Huh? Haven't heard of that one. I guess I must have been mistaken.

Sorry for my delayed reply.

In response to PIX64's request to be more specific about the user experience.

I have a directory set up for Music. I have that mapped into Sage 6.6. When i put a new cd into that directory, it is put into a sub-directory of it's own along with the cover art, etc. For example D:\Music\CD I've Backed up. Then when I go into the 6.6 UI, click on the Music Icon and I am able to see all the CDs in the location of D:\Music\, just as I'd expect. The CD cover art is there and if I drill into that, I see the song titles and can play them, ect.

With version 7 if I do the exact same thing as above, when I scan for new content, the CD does not appear in the same place as the CDs did under 6.6 even with them being in the exact same directory on my computer and with the file structure being the same. The ones scanned in post upgrade to version 7 are actually one level deeper and in fact not in the same place. By this I mean D:\Music\Generic CD Folder at the same level as all my other CDs\CD I've Backed up, instead of D:\Music\CD I've Backed up.

I hope that gives a better understanding.

Thanks to all so far who have given ideas on the new/updated UIs. I didn't realize there were so many out there already or in the works. I will start looking at them.

Appreciate all the help and inputs!

Would you be able to get a screenshot of what you see? I'm still not all that clear on what you mean. Sorry for being dense.

Sorry for the delayed reply as I have been traveling.
I finally figured out the music part of the problem. The new CDs I was having trouble with were backed up a .wav files. All of my other ones were backed up as .wma files. So I tried one of the problem CDs as a .wma file backup and sure enough now it is just like the others that were fine. One problem down and now onto the STV part.

Sounds like there are three main projects going on: phoenix, ortus & diamond. Time to start looking for them on the site and test each. If any, that has used these, wants to contribute comments (pros/cons) I'm interested in hearing them. The primary focus in looking at them will be ease of use for my family while still making all of our existing content available.

Let the comments begin..... Thanks all!

PIX - Thanks for the knowledge!
I was looking at the Phoenix thread a little bit ago and those screenshots look awesome. Is that GA for all of us not in the dev/beta loop?
