BBC HD channel changes

The BBC HD satelite channels have moved from DVB-S to DVB-S2 and also the channel details have changed to:
Satellite: Astra 2D tp.50
Frequency: 10,847MHz (vertical polarity)
Modulation: DVB-S2, QPSK
Symbol Rate: 23.0
FEC: 8/9

Hi,

I think BBC 1 HD has also changes, I've not had time to check that it definately works but if you are using native DVB-S2 then it is possible that this should work:-

CH:143 onid:2 tsid:2050 sid:6941 frq:10847000 rate:23000 mod:30 pol:2 fec_rate_in:9 pilot:0 sat:0 ctrl:1 #:BBC One HD
CH:169 onid:2 tsid:2050 sid:6940 frq:10847000 rate:23000 mod:30 pol:2 fec_rate_in:9 pilot:0 sat:0 ctrl:1 #:BBC HD

As soon as I get a chance I will check that it is correct.

David

I agree that's what they should be according to the published details, but those lines aren't working for me.

Still experimenting ...

No joy here either, I use Hauppauge Nova S2 cards, what are other people running? If we can determine it doesn't work across several cards it will point at Sage.

I know the Hauppauge cards work OK with MCE & their own WinTV7 after looking at their forums, suspect this may be a Sage issue with 23000 symbol rate perhaps as that seems unusual value to use and Pansonic owners have had to do factory resets to get their equipment to work.

I'm using the same card as you. I think you are right, the card works ok with other software so this is probably a Sage issue.

OK, the .frq is correct but looks like more parameters than Sage can specify are needed to tune into the new DVB-S2 channels.

Solution is to run the MCE tool as described here to apply registry patches to alter the tuning, then reboot.

All working fine for me now

OK, I updated my Nova-HD-S2 drivers from 2.122.26109.0 to 2.126.28225 , rebooted again and now it is working.

Thank you starfire

Step by step guide to getting BBC HD channels working again

I have 3 x Hauppauge Nova S2 cards running on Windows 7 64 bit home premium, PC.

I too found that the 2 BBC HD channels stopped working, but after a lot of messing around this is what I have done to get it working again:

1. Stop the Sage TV service
2. Edit the (in my case 3) .frq files as follows (substitute your channel numbers for xxx and yyy)

CH:xxx onid:2 tsid:2050 sid:6941 frq:10847000 rate:23000 mod:30 pol:2 fec_rate_in:9 pilot:0 sat:0 ctrl:1 #:BBC One HD
CH:yyy onid:2 tsid:2050 sid:6940 frq:10847000 rate:23000 mod:30 pol:2 fec_rate_in:9 pilot:0 sat:0 ctrl:1 #:BBC HD

3. Install the MCE patch (see thread http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?22320) and select the 28.2E Freesat option and run it (Not sure whether I needed to do this step)

4. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager and expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" section. Then right click every entry to do with "Hauppauge" and select "Update Driver Software" from the pop-up menu and then ask Windows to "Search Automatically for updated driver software". Windows then reports that it has updated the driver (or it's up to date)

5. Start SageTV service again

6. Reboot the PC

Both BBC1-HD and BBC-HD now work fine!

Hi,

I am not using Hauppauge card so I'll need to log a support request.

Has anyone else logged a support request about this?

Thanks,

David

Not logged a case yet but definitely worthwhile doing it. Patch shouldn't be needed.
