Possible to extend 21-day v7 trial until Google acquisition resolved?

I know this has been asked in another thread, but I'm wondering how they're going to handle the people (like me) who downloaded the v7 trial and would like to keep it beyond the 21 days. I was running v6 and my time is about expired on v7.

Just wanted to throw out there the idea of extending the 21-day trial, somehow, until they get things figured out. If it's hardcoded into the downloaded trial, maybe they could at least post a "temporary" license of some kind that would allow it to continue being usable until things get figured out.

I realize they need to work through details, but they also have to realize that they have a certain volume of loyal users who are in the "limbo" state of the v7 trial and who need some love!

Any other ideas (besides checking the forum multiple times per day)?

In your shoes I would email support@sagetv.com and see if they have anything to say. But be patient; they might not be in a position to answer just yet.

I too have been a long time supporter (since 2.x) and recently upgraded to trial 7.0 in the hopes of purchasing this week... however, it seems thats not going to happen. I hope I dont have to blow out my sagetv and reinstall 6.0. That would be disapointing. I emailed support, I hope they respond.

From what I read on the geektonic interview the beta's don't expire so it would seem you could download 7.1.9 RC and use it without it expiring. Unless, of course, I'm misunderstanding the comment made.

The most recent version of SageTV was in a public beta so I asked what happens to that beta?

The beta versions do not expire. SageTV/Google does not currently have plans relating to posting a final release of V7.1; the current release candidate is of 'release' quality based on SageTV’s prior standards.

You need to purchase v7 license to upgrade from v6 if you purchased v6 before, what was it, Dec 2009? (Not sure on the date but sounds about right).

The beta's do not expire IF you have a valid license. If you are using it in trial mode it will stop working in 21 days.

Couldn't you take an image of your system before the trial, then install the trial. Then keep rolling the system back every 21 days and re-install the trial again? Does the trial still have the big "Trial" letters floating around the screen, or does it look normal?

The trial looks normal, no big "Trial" letters floating around the screen.

I posted a thread in the SageTV Software forum for people with the V7 upgrade issue. It should resolve your problems there.

That's great news! Imaging back your system every 21 days would be a hassle, but maybe the only way to keep the system working if that option did not exist.

The ability to buy client licenses would solve the concerns about the HD extenders dying. Then the HD extenders could be replaced by clients instead of simply loosing SageTV altogether when the HD extender dies.
