Best settings for processor scheduling & memory usage in XP for Sage server?

In Windows XP there are performance settings for:

Processor scheduling - programs or background services

and

Memory usage - programs or system cache


Since I'm running Sage and most of the programs on the server as services am I correct in thinking that Processor scheduling needs to be set for background services? The server is a dedicated media server and not used for anything else.

I'm a little less certain about the memory usage settings. I'm not sure if giving priority to programs or system cache would benefit me most. I'm currently running Sage, comskip, Playon and YAC.

My server is running XP 32 bit and previously only had 2 GB of RAM. I noticed the pagefile usage according to the task manager would regularly reach 1.54 GB during heavy usage. Yesterday I upped the RAM to 4 GB (max amount supported by the old Nforce4 Ultra motherboard). XP can only use 2.75 GB of that so I created a RAM disk out of the remaining 1.25 GB and put the pagefile on it. I also set a small pagefile of 16 MB on the C: drive so Windows had room to increase the pagefile if necessary.

Between the motherboard's limit of 4GB, the fact I still have 1 PVR-500 to capture the occasional show and Sage being bought by Google I don't feel it wise to upgrade my hardware or operating system so I'm just trying to maximize what I already have. Honestly performance is pretty good already. I was getting the occasional spinning circle on my HD200, but after adding the RAM and moving the pagefile so far I haven't experienced a single hiccup. I just want to have things running at peak efficiency to prolong the useful life of my server as long as possible.

I run my server with the processor scheduling set for background services. I run SageTV as a service. I always have.

For memory usage I would think based on running Sage, comskip, Playon and YAC these are programs that are constantly changing or working with new data. I don't see how emphasizing system cache would help in this instance. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the response. That's how I currently have my server set. Just wanted to get a second opinion.
