native output & 480i / 480p mapping

Hi,

I just bought a new high-end TV, and to my eyes, the scaler in the TV is better than the scaler in my HD300 and it re-syncs to new HDMI resolutions almost instantly, so I enabled native output resolution switching. This works really well for all the modes my TV supports (1080p/60, 1080p/24, 1080i, 720p and 480p). However, when I play a 480i recording, the extender switches to 1080p/60.

How can I make it so that 480i media files play back at 480p, rather than 1080p? (without me manually switching the output resolution).

Thanks,

Drew

OOTB i don't think you can. I started and never finished a plugin that would replace sages "native output switching" with my own custom one where you could map ranges of input resolutions (complete with wildcard support) to the desired output resolution. Not sure if I'll ever finish it though as its on my sage back-back burner

Well, you'd have at least one user if you finished it

In the properties file for your HD300 (clients\macaddress.properties) add/modify this line.

Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=720x480i@60|standard\=HDMI_480p60

Awesome, works like a charm.

Thanks!

oh that's a smart way of fooling the extender to match 480i = 480p... good thinking

On second thought, native output seems to be rather unstable on my HD300. When I start / stop some videos, the extender seems to lock up & I need to physically power cycle it (with the cord, not just the remote) to get it back again. I can't find a way to reproduce this ... sometimes it goes days without happening, and sometimes it will happen on every video I play.

John: What firmware rev are you running on your HD300? Is it stable with native output switching enabled?

Drew

I'm using 20110217-0. I couldn't get native resolution sitching to work on 576i with 20110506-0.

You'll need to go back to the latest non-beta release version before you can install
20110217-0.

John is it possible to get 50Hz and 60Hz material to run using this method on the same HD300 I can't seem to get 60Hz material to run at the correct speed in Pal land I get the dreaded lip sync issues on some material.

Sure,

Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=720x480p@60|standard\=HDMI_480p60;720x480i@60|standard\=HDMI_480i60;1280x720p@60|standard\=HDMI_720p60;1920x1080p@60|standard\=HDMI_1080p60;1920x1080i@60|standard\=HDMI_1080i60
The biggest problem I've found is that if you have any content that isn't defined then the HDx00s use the highest resolution available, so I've ended up having to add some extra resoltions to handle odd resolutions like, "704x560p@50|standard\=HDMI_576p50"

John

Thanks for those examples John I will give them a go latter in the week. Since you live in the same country as I do can you list what you currently use in your "extender_resolution_extra_modes=" command
