Test/play with Gemstone on client only?

Haven't done anytnig interesting with my sage setup in years, thought I would take a look at gemstone. I would rather not mess with the server with the kids snowed in, can I install it only on a pc client, or does something irreversible have to happen to the server?

Put another way, can all the "production" extenders function with the sage UI while the pc client is running gemstone?

Yes. Just install Gemstone on your Client PC. Your server and extenders can all stay the same.

FWIW, I accidentally upgraded a PC client to Gemstone and noticed some oddness on my server's UI (on the video detail screen, IIRC) which was still running Diamond.

There shouldn't be any difference on your server after installing on a Client.

I often run my server without any UI mods added to it with just BMT/Phoenix Core Services installed for fanart, no Diamond or Gemstone UI installed.

I am guessing but I think you have something else causing the video detail screen to be different on the server.

I did have Diamond installed on the server still and I hadn't touched the server in months. At least the problem went away once I updated to Gemstone on the server as well. *shrug*
