HD300 known deinterlacing issue?

I've got an HD300 that I've had for years, running 20110506-0. It is plugged directly into an LG 60PZ950 via HDMI.

There is an odd interlacing glitch that I often see and have mostly learned to ignore. Recently, when watching the world cup, it started to drive me nuts. The issue is that, when watching sports broadcast in ATSC 1080i (like the world cup on our univision channel), the interlacing "looses sync". Suddenly there is a huge amount of judder, the screen becomes blurry, and you can see motion trails after everything. It is almost like the frame rate drops from 30fps to 5 fps or something due to the deinterlacing cadence being wrong.

- This seems to persist until a scene change, different camera angle, commercial, etc.

- Usually (but not always, maybe 9/10 times), skipping back or forward 5-10 will end the glitching.

- Skipping 5 seconds back and replaying the bad section of the recording will result in perfect playback (so it is hard to blame the recording)

- It is far worse when displaying at 1080i than 1080p, but it is still noticeable when the video output is set to 1080p as as slightly blurry screen (but none of the judder).

Is this a know bug in the last firmware version? I know there was some bug in this last version, but I cannot recall what it was.

Thanks,

Drew

Yep, i've always set my extenders to 1080p and noticed a similar glitch, but now get used to it. It seems a sort of field swap and is more noticeable on 100Hz TV models (120Hz in US obviously) due the nature of the different video processing. Have you got the Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing enabled on your HD300? (Standalone mode > Settings > Advanced Setup > Multimedia).

Thanks.. I noticed the setting was present both in standalone & extender mode. It was enabled in both places, so I disabled it in both places. Does the standalone value take precedence, and the extender mode setting is just a dummy?

It may be a while before I notice whether or not it worked.. the word cup final is on a 720p channel, where the announcers speak english (rather than spanish on the 1080i channel), so it may be 2 months before I watch any more sports in 1080i.

I reckon the settings are separate. I have mine both enabled as the video processing of my TV is appalling, but if you have a good video processor or your TV Is very good you can safely turn the setting off.

If you're running 1080p you probably don't want to turn it off, because the HD300 will still be doing deinterlacing (I has to, to convert 1080i to 1080p).

If you want to disable video processing on the HD300 you need to enable Native Resolution Output Switching.
