Win7 & HVR-2250 PCIe card issues
After several years of them working together Win7 has decided it doesn't recognize the cards any longer (none of the 6 slots). I've uninstalled/reinstalled the most recent driver a few times. I've updated the BIOS. Driver and bios were updated after cards stopped working.
I use the cards to capture OTA HD only. So two questions: Any other suggestions for troubleshooting? Or Any suggestions for replacement capture cards? |

32bit which doesn't matter but added anyway.

Maybe its a problem with your motherboard? Have you tried any other PCIe cards in those slots to see if anything works?
Could be a driver or registry problem with the capture cards - Hauppauge has a utility called HWClear that clears all the registry settings and other stuff related to their cards that don'e always get removed when you uninstall. Try running that to clear everything and then re-install from scratch.

Good suggestion about checking Device Manager though.

Thank you both.
Tested a PCIe video card today in all 6 slots. 6 for 6 that the video card was recognized. That equals, slots are good. Now I am looking for another system to test the cards in to confirm or rule out bad cards. Cards show in device manager. Sometime like the attachment, where their is an issue and they have a "Device Cannot Start: Code 10". This is the most common outcome. So if I am down to blown cards, what does anyone suggest as a replacement? Again, only interested in OTA HD. Thanks All! |

Have you tried running the HWClear app and re-installing the drivers for the card yet?
Those screenshots indicate that Windows can see and recognize the card, it just can't get it to work.

yes sorry I didn't include that info previously. Have done that a couple times.
Basic process is as follows: Run the clear. Reboot Run driver89_7_9_1_33006 Reboot (nothing) From Device Manager Update Driver Software Then "search automatically" Attached a screenshot of what I see after this. So then I try to add Legacy Hardware (because the cards are at least 4 years old) and why not. I point it to my drivers on the HCW3_4_26249MCE CD. I will attach several screenshots that show the process that leads to nothing ness. |

Try the following.
Go to the Hauppage website and download the 2250 drivers - Run Hwclear if you have it and make sure the card is seated properly in the slot as it should be firm and snug when you push it in. Make sure you have the power off when you do this. Then after doing the above of checking your pci card is installed and the drivers are all cleared, reboot your pc and wait for the windows drivers to install the needed drivers first. On mine , it always installed a vga driver first then it would install the windows tuner drivers. After the above you should reboot. After this is done which will take a while depending on your internet speed you can then install the latest hauppage drivers that you downloaded from the hauppage website if you want to. Reboot or turn off sagetvservice and restore it to reinitilize the tuners and load up sage tv and start adding your tuners and they should show up as Hauppage Winttv-7164 analog capture digital tuner if I remember right. When you first add the tuners , just add them without scanning for new channels as if you try to scan for new channels after adding a tuner the tuner will be in use until you reboot and give you an error. You should add your tuners and then reboot once more and fire up sage tv and finally scan for new channels. |

Totallyus,
Thank you for the detailed response. I have done numerous variations on your steps several time. I will follow them exactly step for step tonight as I don't remember the part about Win7 recognizing them then changing drivers. I do notice that it tries to install the "multimedia controller" (from 1 of my pictures) and fails that. More later tonight when I can test. |

I have a felling that card die that why you need test in a diff system becuases if it is still give the the same problem with driver code 10 error there sometime wrong the 2250 board it self.
It not uncommon for windows to see the device which just mean it able read frimware which hold hardware id and subid details for inf. |

I agree with testing in a different system. Still working on finding a system that still has PCIe slots. More tablets and laptops and fewer desktops/towers.

I think it is figured out. Cards seem fine in another system. In the other system I did have to force the "multimedia controller" to scan for a driver. It found the proper one & installed the cards. Back to original system. Same failure. So then on the original computer I went back 1 month and did a system restore. After the restore and the restart, I told the "multimedia controller" to find a driver and it found it and installed it this time. Now the tuners are recognized in the Sagetv software and my EPGs are back.
Now my issue seems to be low signal strength. Trying to watch something says "no signal". So I go into each of the tuners and try to preview channels to see the signal strength. It bounces between 6% and 100% and eventually settles down at 6%. Strange thing is there was no change to the antenna, cables, etc. from when it worked a short time ago. Hooked one of the OTA cables directly to a TV and image looked fine. Got to figure out the perceived low signal strength within SageTV software. |

Thank you for the suggestion. I had not heard of Capture4Me before. I tested using Capture4Me right now and that worked perfectly. Afterwards, SageTV still showed 6% on the tuner preview & no signal when I try to watch anything.
