I was able to get a menu to "stick" (possibly I finally figured out the ADM copy mode, which wasn't obvious), but when I invoke it, I get a blank screen. That probably matches what I got when I got the list of PnP servers when trying to set it up, and the PlayOn one said it was "empty." That suggests not (just) an ADM setup issue but that for some reason my PlayOn isn't "talking" to the plugin in the way it expects.

I found the following in sagetvclient_0.txt, corresponding to a time-stamp when I tried to invoke the up&p browser. I get a list, which includes the sage server itself, a router (which could host media but isn't being used for that), a Roku stick, and the PlayOn server. When I click on the PlayOn server, the log shows this - obviously showing some errors but I don't know how to interpret them:

Yes, the 29th character is the space in "we tv." However, I can't find a folder with such a name (or anything like it) on my system. The only possible candidate would be one of the Xfinity channels available through PlayOn, namely the "we" channel. But that's not something that lives on my system. There are lots of other channels with spaces in their names, so it seems odd that a space should be a problem - but it is indeed the 29th character in the string.

I think it's barfing on the space character but I don't know why, the parser should handle that. I may need to update one of the dependencies. (I use a third party JAR to parse the UPnP items.

Netflix issue
So, I've just installed this plugin and I'm having some problems with Netflix. It works fine for other PlayOn Channels (e.g. Amazon video). When I select a video to play, I get the buffering message for about a minute, then it fails and says "There was an error playing .....flv. Error (-2): Files selected for playback are no longer on disk". When I go to look for the file, it is there but has zero file size.
Any thoughts? |

So, I do have another question though. is there any way of enforcing parental controls through this plug in? In Netflix (and SageTV), I have parental controls enabled, but it seems I can play any video though this plugin without having to enter my PIN.

Sorry, there are no parental controls. I'm not even sure how I would implement that.

So, I'm now struggling with getting HD from PlayOn through UPnP. I tried the trick posted above by Fuzzy, but it still pulls video from Netflix & Amazon at 720x404. Is there something else I missed? If I watch through the PlayOn desktop app, it comes in as HD

There are posts on Playon and Kodi forums that make the same complaint. If I understand what they're saying, it seems to be an architecture issue in Playon. It emulates / uses a web browser to download content. Because of that, content providers are not providing anything better than the 720p we are seeing. For example, Amazon states that the connection must support HDCP before they'll provide 1080p. Your smart TV may be able to display 1080p, using an Amazon app, but Playon can't do it. For more information, an interesting read is the Playon forum entry at this link. If I find out anything more, I will post it here. I have to admit that I've not used the Playon app to view anything to see if it's different. Maybe I'll try that next.

A new question to this (slightly) old thread.
I'm working (slowly) towards getting rid of cable. Seeing the lifetime PlayOn sale recently, I decided $20 was too good to pass up. I now have PlayOn installed on the same machine as the SageTV (v9 64-bit) system. I have everything in PlayOn setup just fine, and installed the plugin "UPnP (PlayOn) Browser" by tmiranda. I've rebooted the system. Here's my question: I don't see the UPnP Browser. I'm using Gemstone, and see that there is some special installs in the first post to this thread. Was wondering if that is still necessary, giving that this thread started a few years ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: I was looking around, and see that the additional plugin that was installed "UPnP Support" by tmiranda plugin, has some settings. I updated those with things like recording directory. Still don't know how to request PlayOn to record something from within SageTV. Last edited by Deano; 12-30-2019 at 09:22 AM. |

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure what a dynamic link even is. I really like the Gemstone UI, and would hope to stay with that. Is there some setting / copy method I could use to get this to work? Can I jump between the standard STV and Gemstone, just to try it out? Or will that contaminate / change all my existing settings? |

Yes, you can failrly easily jump between the Gemstone STV and the default Sage STV. From Gemstone: Setup>Detailed Setup>Advanced>Revert to the default STV: From Default STV: Gemstone>Revert to Gemstone STV (close enough)

OK. Just spent some time in the original menu looking at the UPnP Browser and the PlayOn setup. I love it!
With regard to copying from the original menu in menu manager, I've never spent much time in this for Sage, and would request a little guidance. I've been looking / searching in this forum, but so far have struck out on any help. I don't know how to copy as jusjoken mentions. I'll keep fumbling around, but if someone has a little guidance, I'd really appreciate it. EDIT: I FOUND THE SOLUTION! jusjoken gave the details a couple (after today, a few) years ago. That's what I love about this forum....lot's of information and willingness of folks to help Last edited by Deano; 01-01-2020 at 09:53 AM. |
