Preview imported DVD?

I have started converting my dvd's to "Imported videos" Aka copying them to the directory, Since this has the added beneifit of being fairly easy and able to use the placeshifter to watch them, Also allows for them to show up in the web page server, which is very important for me.

The Question I pose is how to put the preview and synopsis with the DVD so it is Easy to watch w/o having to load the whole DVD, AKA I see the DVD, I remeber the name but forget whether I like it or not, How do I group the preview video with the DVD. Is there A way to put "Watch Preview" in the info about the DVD?

And how do I create a info about the movie in the "Info section" is there a way for me to easly do all this for each movie?

I take it you've got the trailers for all these DVDs ripped? It's possible, but not natively supported, this would require some Studio work to accomplish.

I've been working on this (on and off), at the moment, I'm kind of waiting for V6 to stabilize.

Hmm....i think it would be pretty nice to be able to watch the trailers of all the movies you have...hmm......

maybe when you select one of your imports--you have to option to 'play' or 'play trailer'

I really like your idea, and if we can't view trailer info, I'd even opt for an option to be able to view a text synopsis either manually entered, or pulled from IMDB.com. If I recall, I think SageMC does this.

Not to be critical, but if you don't like it, why do you keep it?

Well, Text synopsis would be really neat, And play or play trailers would be even cooler. Most dvd's I have actually have the trailer of the movie somewhere on the DVD, So all we would have to really do is link a play trailer to one of those VOB files.

Unfortunately, there is no standard way to encode trailers on a DVD, so figuring out which VOB file had the trailer for every possible DVD would be extremely difficult.

The more likely solution probably would be to have a folder with all your trailers in it, then have the STV search that folder for a file named the same as the current file. You would of course also have to filter out those items in the imports view somehow - but it is fairly do-able I think.

I don't know if it helps, but SageMC has the capability of importing and saving metadata for your imported videos (and offline DVD's) from IMDB and DVD Profiler. This includes synopsis, category, cover art, etc. There are even nifty (warning: biased opinion ) little icons to tell you whether the video is online (copied to your hard drive) or offline (just on a DVD).

Aloha,
Mike

I think the easiest way would be to simply drop the trailer file in the same folder as the movie, similar to how the folder.jpg is handled for coverart.
