Playing Imported Videos stalls Sage
Hi all,
I used Sage a while back and I've decided to give Sage a 15 day trial and love the new version! Unfortunately there is one deal breaker that is happening. I am trying to play imported xvid encoded files and when doing so under imported media I will have success 1/3rd of the time, another 1/3rd I will get a static frame of video and the audio will play the last 1/3rd I will get a black screen. In either of the last two senarios if I try to do anything with my remote I get the twirly "sagetv is working" icon on the screen. I have the latest Koepi's Xvid codec installed on the system and on a seperate computer the exact same codec and every other player works just fine. These videos are imported over the network. I had no problem doing this with SageTV 3. I have Nvidia Purevideo and Cyberlink powerdvd 7 installed as well. It's been quite frustrating since it worked so well before. Any ideas guys? Thanks! -Pants |

Well, since no one answered my previous question let me rephrase it:
What codecs do you guys install on your systems? |

IIRC, I just use the standard xvid codec from xvid.org, and the divx codec from divix.com.
Maybe double-check the actual codec for the problem video with gspot, http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ , to make sure there isn't any issues with the encoding. edit: out of the box, I don't think that Sage is even using those xvid/divx codecs. Sage is set to use its built-in mplayer that doesn't need external codecs. However, it is an older mplayer build, so may not be up to date on all the codecs. You can set Sage not use mplayer, but the alternate media player, that does use codec, by changing a settin in sage.properties and sageclient.properties. Set the following line to FALSE, mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=false
