Windows Home Server and Sage TV HD
I'd like to use Sage on my WHS box (HP Mediasmart) to stream ripped DVD's (ISO) and HD home movies (1080i.mpg and AVCHD (.mt2s)) files. Is the Sw and box bug free enough to do this reliably. I have a gigabit ethernet connection to the server via a router. From what I can gather it may not work so great for recoding to the WHS box but playback maybe OK. Is this true? Anyone no what HW is inside the Sage box? Does it support .mt2s files? I sent an email to Sage but never got a response....

Sage's WHS version works quite well, provided you follow some simple rules of thumb.
1. Don't record to WHS' drive pool. Keep your recording drives separate and formated with 64K clusters as per Sage's instructions. 2. Not all tuners work in WHS as driver support for WHS (a Win2K3 lite version) isn't always available from the tuner manufacturer. Most times WinXP drivers will work fine. Check the Sage forums for known working tuners. Not quite sure what you mean by "the Sage box". If you're referring to the Sage HD-100 extender, it does it's own decoding and supports many different video formats (check the Sage site for the specifics).

Sounds like you want to use the WHS box just as a Network Attached Storage.
If that's the case, it certainly will work.

Gents, Thanks. Yes What I want to do is use the WHS box as a NAS for pictures, ripped DVD's (ISO) and HD Camcorder files. I dont want to record to the NAS. It does not seem as anyone is sure if the HD media extender will play the native .mt2s files from my Sony SR-11. They are a version of .264 encoding. It seems as if i may have to transcode them in mpeg2 files. Also has anyone had good success with hi res jpeg still image playback?

Doug - I just received an HP Mediasmart server. How do you find SageTV works with the Mediasmart Server, any issues installing the SageTV software on the server? I have the SageTV HD Extender and was using my main PC to stream, but since I now leave my Mediasmart Server on all the time, I would prefer to use that instead. Thanks.
