SageTV Will Not Start.
SageTV will not start at all. Nothing happens when I try to start the program. I have had the program for over a year. I have been using Vista Home Premium for about 6 months now. I did a System Restore several times as far back as 5 days. I have uninstalled and re-installed SageTV several times. I even renamed the folder files before re-installing just to make sure new ones would be created. Vista Media Center TV works, so it isn't the ATI digital 650 combo pcie tuner card. I recently added 'NBC Olympics On the Go TVTonic'. I previously just had TVTonic. It was uninstalled-installed when I did a system restore. I recently updated Java. And I recently uninstalled and re-installed ATI Catalyst programs.
Anybody have any idea what happened and how I can get SageTV working again? I don't want to have to buy a different product in order to watch TV on my computer again. |

When you said that you "renamed the folder files", did that mean that you renamed the old install directory so a new one would be created that started out completely empty?
Since you are running Vista, you may have files in the VirtualStore, so even though you removed the old install path, the files in the VirtualStore could still be there & if one of those files is corrupt, then it needs to be removed too. I would check that first. You could also enable debug logging to see what the log says when startup fails, again paying attention to making sure you are editing the sage.properties file that is actually being used. And, don't forget that you can submit a support request for further help. - Andy

Yes, I renamed the old SageTV folder to SageTV_2 so the re-install would have to create a new one.
I do not have a sage.properties file. I did a search and found nothing. And I couldn't find a virtualstore. Being the program doesn't start at all, maybe it doesn't create the files. Sincerely, John |

While this probably isn't the reason, I thought I would throw it out sine the original post mentions the topic... over the weekend, I had the pop-up appear for the latest Java update, and that pop-up alone (little bubble from the system tray) completely locked up Sage, requiring a server reboot.
I've never had any Java-related issues before, but I was wondering if possibly the latest update could have some sort of conflict... though I would think the "pop-up alert" function would be Windows-related and not java-related anyway. Just throwin' that out there...

I deleted the latest version of Java; removed SageTV; rebooted; re-installed SageTV. It still won't start, but for the first time, I now have a sage.properties.default file. On re-installing SageTV, on choose the options for 'launch the user manual' and 'start SageTV' after selecting 'Finish'.
I tried to open the sage.properties.default file, but it failed. Does anyone know how to open it for edit? Is it the same as the sage.properties file referred to in a previous post? Cheers, John |

I typed 'edit sage.properties.default' in the 'Start' command window and an edit window opened up. It looks like the file is empty.

No, the .defaults file is not the same properties file as the one I mentioned above. It can be edited with Notepad, but if it is empty, you have installer issues & should redownload the installer and/or contact tech support.
And, this FAQ contains info on where the VirtualStore files are located. - Andy
