Exclamation 6.2.4-SagetvService:timeout,failed to start

just noticed this when a server reboot failed to allow mvp connection!

in event viewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7009
Date: 03/07/2007
Time: 13:30:58
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the SageTV service to connect.

THEN

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 03/07/2007
Time: 13:30:58
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

not a biggie for me as i leave server on 24/7, so i can start it manually but if there was to be an automatic restart i would be stuffed

any ideas?

Is this on XP or Vista?

Try going into the actual services on the machine and setup your user and password from there instead of through the Sage service control app. You should get a dialog box after sucessfully logging in that the user can now use the service or something like that.

I've seen this too, on a cold boot. Service starts fine if you do it manually, but doesn't seem to go if Windows tries to kick it off on bootup. Oh, and Server 2k3 here.

Wonder if it has anything to do with WHS? Supposedly that's 2k3 based, and both of us are on 2k3.

Drak,

I'm having the same problem too. I'm running Vista Home Premium. The service seems to timeout on startup, but will start normally if I start the SageTV service manually.

Just a quick update. This is a problem with the beta. I just reinstalled version 6.1.9 and the SageTV service starts up with no problem on a cold boot.

Update

I submitted a bug report and i was told to try my sagetvService.exe from 6.1 which work. Thanks Sage.

I was given a modified SagetvService.exe and that also worked.
So I think they know what the bug is and will get it fixed

I have attached the modified file if anyone either does not have there previous version or just wants it.
Attached Files
File Type: zip SageTVService.zip (337.5 KB, 365 views)
