Ripping out codecs from applications...

I am interested in trying out Arcsoft and Cyberlink h.264 codecs on my system, but don't have the room on my OS partition to install their huge bloated apps.

If I install the apps on another system, which files do I need on the HTPC for the codecs to work properly?

Use a filter manager like Directshow Filter manager or Graphedit to get the properties of where the filter is stored, then copy the codec (should be a .ax file) and move it to your other system. Use regsvr32 to register the filter.

My experiences....
Copying the different .ax files does not always work correctly. When you install a program like WinDVD, it makes a number of registry entries which are there for a reason. If you just copy the DirectShow filter .ax by it's self, you may get inoperative or problematic operation.
