Delaying SageTV Service.
Hello,
The SageTV service seems to give me some problems... When I boot-up my server, SageTV doesn't connect to the DVB Network Encoder. The reason is that I ask Mytheatre to start 30 secs after the boot process to allow enough time for most of my services on the server to be fully loaded. The consequence is that SageTV shows me a lot of conflicts from my "MyTheartre" lineup and don't pick-up that particular lineup until I manually switch to a channel form the "faulty" lineup. So I'm wondering if there are some settings I can play with to delay the SageTV Service while my server is starting ? I've seen the following settings in the sage.properties file but I don't know what they're for: Code:
mstry_start_delay=10000 startup_delay=0 Cortechs.

I ran across this thread last night when I was looking for info on a different problem. It might work for you.

I use this option and works perfectly, my problem was a bit different then described, but basically if I didn't delay the startup SageTV service would take almost 10 minutes to load.

Enable logging, I thought I was having this issue because my database had grown to the point it couldn't be loaded before the autologin. The reality is I had some corrupt mp3s in my library that Sage would cycle over repeatedly slowing the process down. Removed and reripped and I was off and running again in no time.

In the past, I've used a batch file to do this. I set the service to be a manual start, then run a batch file in my "startup" folder.
THe batch file just runs (something like): sleep 60 net start sagetv "sleep" is from the windows resource kit, IIRC.

There's a useful little freeware app called Startup Delayer that you can get from http://www.r2.com.au/ that allows you to delay the startup of virtually everything that starts when you login. That combined with the previously mentioned batch file to start the service can provide a very civilized way to do it.

Hello,
Well seems to me that there are no elegant ways to manually do this ... I mean we don't have any command line to start the service with. So for now I will stick with yet another firedeamon "service" which starts SageTV after Mytheatre is fully loaded (dependency). It's really a "net start" service which just launch SageTV and rely only on the good faith in the SageTV service to recover itself upon crash as Firedeamon can't monitor a service, or process for that matter, that it didn't start. Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions! Regards, Cortechs
