Grab yourself the SageTV manual. You'll install the tuner card and drivers on your WHS server. Install the SageTV add-in for WHS (it has the .msi extension) and install it. You can either install placeshifter or get yourself the SageTV PC client and install that on your PC. You should basically be good to go.

I'm new to this, but excited about the possibilities. I'm in the process of setting up a Windows Home Server. If I go the Sage TV route, I want to make sure what I need to purchase.
For the Server: - Sage Tv Software - TV Tuner - any recommendations? - Hard drive for storage (outside the WHS group) For computers on the network to watch live/recorded tv from server - Sage TV Placeshifter For TV to watch live/recorded tv from server - Sage TV Media extender Do I have that correct? Am I missing anything? Thanks for the help, Joel |

I may be getting mixed up on the license stuff since I started with a client and then moved to WHS but I believe if you have SageTV running on your server, that includes one client license to view from a computer. Then your HD Extender comes with it's own client license. So I don't think you actually need to buy a client license. Someone more versed in license issues will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. Oh and for tuners, I love my HDHomerun for clear QAM recording. And I love my HD-PVR for the premium HD channels. Suggestions will depend somewhat on how you're getting your signal (OTA, cable, satellite, etc). Tim

Thanks for the quick reply. I was confused on the Client software/license.
Currently I just have the basic cable (no box, just cable from the wall connector) which does include some digital and HD channels. What tuner would be best for this situation. Thanks again. Joel |

If you have no cable box the HDHR will give you either Clear QAM cable stations or OTA ATSC stations. Or both. But what it won't give you is analog-the majority of what you probably now get on your cable connection. I have't tried it but hte HVR2250 may be a good way to go because it can do analog on both tuners, digital on both tuners or any combination on 2 tuners.

Does anyone have any experience with this card? It sounds like it would work fine. If I understand correctly, I should be able to get analog, digital, and the HD local channels. Is that right?

It of course depends on what your sources are. In our house we only pay for standard cable, so analog tuners are a priority, which is why I installed two PVR500 tuners (for a total of four analog tuners). They work fine with WHS, though the warnings shown installing the drivers made me feel slightly dirty.
I only recently began playing with a HDHR to tune in the free QAM broadcasts from our cable provider. For the most part successful, though we did get enough glitchy behavior (blockyness, skips, etc.) that I've backed off for now. Stability is key in my house or my customers (i.e., wife, daughter) complain. Rich |
