Sagetv mpeg splitter issue
I have some .ts files with a dts soundtrack that have no sound when played in sagetv. They play in MPC no problem because of the mpeg splitter i use. I understand that sagetv has its own splitter that apparently does not support DTS sound. Is there any way to fix this problem?
Thanks |

No. Neither SageTV nor any of the extenders support or pass thru DTS sound.

That is odd. Is there a reason? The only reason this is a problem is because I back up my Blu-rays to the hard drive in .ts form to make them more "wife friendly". The ones with dts tracks play fine in windows but I don't want her to have to learn how to switch between media player classic and sage. It would be nice if blu-rays had a dolby track as well, i can re-encode but would prefer not to. This is sort of a non issue until there is some sort of bitstream sound card for the HD audio, but that is another discussion. Any idea if this is permanent?

I would imagine a decoder that decodes DTS probably has licensing costs. I'm not sure of the reason. It's my best guess and I can't tell you if it's permanent. Hope not-other people have asked for tha capability too. I think the people backing up Blue rays remux the audio and use the AC3 track.

That makes sense. I just figured if the sage dvd player would support it then the sage media player would. Although that may have to do with dvd decoders and not sage. I imagine ac3 is supported for the simple fact HD broadcasts all have one for of ac3 or another. I didn't think of that. Thanks for the insight.

I think that depends on the context. DVDs and Videos don't use the sage demuxer so it should work for those types of files provided that your audio decoding chain is configured properly (using spdif & audio decoder supports dts passthrough).

You may be correct. Although the extender (HD100) does not support DTS pass thru SPDIF and I hear they may be working on this for the new HD200.

Yeah, I can't speak to the extender. OP mentioned that it worked in MPC, so I assumed the question was re. PC playback only.

That is what I was thinking. My audio decoders are configured correctly, but sage still prefers its own splitter over the one I want to use. I had the same problem with another splitter using MPC and when I switched to one that supported DTS i have no problems. I've read that you can use the Haali's splitter, but I don't know how to force sage to use it. any thoughts?

This is what my directshow filter line in my debug txt looks like.
DShowGraphFilters=Video Renderer,Default DirectSound Device,VidRend,AC3Filter,Line21 Decoder,CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD8),SageTV MPEG2 Demultiplexer,D:\Blu-Rays\******.ts If could get sage to use another splitter instead of the SageTV MPEG2 Demultiplexer I'm sure DTS would work fine. Any ideas? |

Sagetv now officially supports DTS sound, but I have been unable to get it to pass it through to my receiver. Any thoughts?
