What audio output do you use?
I was curious to see what output everyone is using as far as audio goes.

I have the amd/ati 3450 with the onboard hdmi that is supposed to support 5.1 audio, but I am unable to get dolby digital or dts to pass through to my receiver. Anybody else have this card?

For my Sage stuff, and until I manage an SSP upgrade, it's S/PDIF.

doesn't this question really depend on the client being used? I may not be understanding, so i didn't vote. i have my HD200 going over optical multichannel via my receiver/amp, my server/client is analog stereo, and my PC-client is analog stereo as well (although i would like to hook up a 5.1 setup to this one). AFAIK, the source is recorded as-is and "rendered" by the client as best as it can.

I'm not really talking about extenders as they are limited where as pc's could potentially have dts-ma bitstream output while playing blu-rays. Or any other variation of hdmi, spdif, or analog outputting. Extenders are much more simple as they will output what you tell them to. Maybe not dts or ac3 encoding, but you get the idea.
Oh, and btw I sound out my panasonic plasma won't pass through my ac3 encoded signal to my receiver via optical cable. Who'd a thought? |

I read somewhere that very few sets will pass surround from their inputs to their s/pdif outputs if that's what you mean. My Samsung doesn't
![]() Did find a nice 4 port switch with remote though: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cg...item/SP-OPT-SW Now I can be a complete couch potato ![]()
