HD200 - horrible image problems.

Hi All,

I all excitedly set up my new HD 200 - and after it was on a while I noticed that it started showing "sparkling" affects in dark areas. I hard rebooted it and the problem was there even when not connected to my server.

It seems to get worse the longer the HD200 has been on... Maybe heat related?

I have updated to the latest beta firmware - not improvement.

Picture attached. Do I have dodgy hardware or is this some bizzare software issue?

Thanks
T

Is this at 1080p over HDMI? It could be your cable. Try a lower resolution, or try using component outputs to see if the problem goes away.

Aloha,
Mike

Hi Mike,

As ever - thanks for the help!

No - this problem is at 720p. The issue almost goes at 576p but is still there. It could be my imagination but it also seems to gets worse the longer the HD200 has been turned on...

The same cable/tv combination works absolutley fine with a HD100.

I've not got any other cables to test with - but will see what I can dig up in the week.

Any other ideas?
Thanks
T

Lets hope not... I have another unit still in the box that I will get out and play with later. Also need to do some heavy lifting (moving HEAVY cabinets) so can try out different cables as wiggling the cable does seem to make some difference the HD200 does seem ok on another TV. Am hoping it is a dodgy cable that for some reason the HD100 played nicely with...

Why are things never easy with new toys??

Try a firmware updated? Kind of looks like the background image is goofed up, since the text looks fine.

Already tried that. The issue is in darker areas of the picture. Happens for video too.

Does somehow seem to be cable related. I can recreate the issue on two different HD200s on one TV using different HDMI cables (the ones that come with the HD200 included).

Wiggling the cables in the back of the HD200 seems to fix it - at least until someone knocks the HD200 and the issue comes back. Wiggling the cable at the back of the TV has no affect.

Weirdly the same cable and same HD200 on a different TV seems fine.

Stumped - but at least can get it to work if I hide the box out of reach of anyone...

I may drop a mail to support to see if they have any ideas...

That's a very interesting picture.....I've never seen it look like that before. I'd be very interested to know if it also happens on the component outputs as well.

Another thing to try is update to the latest beta firmware (enter 2382 on the System Update menu to get access to beta firmware) and then in Advanced Setup->Multimedia try setting it to force the HDMI display mode. That'll behave more like the HD100 did. Let us know if that helps.
