Add recording/conflict warning

Is there any way to have Sage warn you when you add a recording that you are bumping another recording out? Missed an episode of "The Big Bang Theory" cause my wife selected to record a movie and didn't realize the manual 1 time recording bumped out the favorite for Big Bang.

If a new Manual Recording conflicts with an existing MR, you will get a warning dialog.

The warning will not appear for Favorites that are bumped off by a new MR, but if a Favorite can't be rescheduled, there will be a conflict icon in the menu header area at the top of the screen -- covered around p. 27 of the PDF manual, with links to the Recording Conflicts menu.

That seems not good - I love Sage but BeyondTV ALWAYS gave a warning if you were bumping another recording of any kind out, esp. a favorite/season pass/etc and would actually give you the option of resolving the conflict right there. I like the ability to go see all conflicts but IMHO there should really be a prompt if you're kicking out a favorite since by definition favorites are the shows most important to a user.

If Sage can reschedule the recording for a later time or date it will NOT throw up the conflict icon because as far as Sage is comcerned it will record it and there is no conflict. But as I bolded in Andy's quote if it CAN'T reschedule it then you'll see the conflict icon and can fix it yourself. It tries to do the work for you.

In Sage Favorites are NOT the most important recordings, Manual Recordings are. Those are the recordings you have explicitly told Sage to record, at the expense of all else. Sage figures that it will be able to pick up the bumped favorite later on and will actually look through its entire program cache (not just the default 3 day scheule). If after searching it cant find a replacement time to record the bumped show, it will throw up a confilct icon, as was mentioned above.

If you use an RSS reader and have sage webserver installed, you can have an up to date feed of all your confilcts, as well as your recording schedule.

Also, if a fave is that important, you can always periodically scan the upcoming recordings schedule and mark those favorite recordings as manual recordings. This gives them the benifit of never being automatically deleted, being recorded even if the favorite has reached its # limit, and it will bring up the immediate confilct warning that you were looking for.

Unfortunately either option will not have a good WAF, and being as the problem we experienced I believe was created the actual night that the favorite was scheduled to record, it wasn't something I could have caught by monitoring in the background. Recording the episode at a different time will not work with most first run sitcoms that we watch, unless Sunday night is slow and they decide to run an "encore". Part of the reason also that I switched to Sage is so that once I get it running smooth I can "set it and forget it", not constantly have to mess with it like I had to do with BTV.

I really love Sage, don't get me wrong, it beats BTV hands down so far, but this is one thing that really is not as good as BTV IMHO. Maybe there is a SageMC add on or something that will solve this, I'm still learning to crawl so it'll be a while before I can try MC, but hopefully something there will help.

I'll throw in a feature request, hopefully it can be slid in without too much hassle.

Here was my feature request to handle this issue...

The work around is rather than manual recording, set it as a favorite (even if it is only for one show). By default it will be added as the bottom favorite so it will bump below all other favorites. Keep in mind it may still give priority to the "manual" show if it has no other non conflicting airings and the favorite does have a later airing. It will still add a conflict notification if it can not be recorded. Just have to clear out the favorites every now and then.

I know some have complained that sometimes favorites get bumped to a secondary airing and this has caused problems. I guess an option when you select manual recording would be "Record this Airing" or "Record this Episode." The rest of the recording logic seems to be smart with this regard (I mean episode based). I guess I could add the movies as favorites as that would allow the conflict resolution to work it out, but then i'd have to manage the favorite after it was complete.
By the way, official feature requests are supposed to go to the support link.

Thanks, that seems more doable since I can go clean out the favorites now and then and it won't affect day to day operations.
