Placeshifter connects then vanished
I'm testing out Sage, and trying to connect with placeshifter on my home network. I can find the server, placeshifter is enabled on it. I can connect, it shows the server screen briefly (same skin), then it disappears. I have not done anything other than install Sage and placeshifter, and turn on placeshifter service during setup. Am I missing something?

I've seen this happen when I have "Enable 3D acceleration" checked in the settings dialog. Only on some of my machines. Others have been OK. When I uncheck that box, it starts right up.
YMMV of course. |

enabl 3d acceleration, this is enabled on server, not on placeshifter, should I disable on placesifter?

Two different things. The one on the server only affects video playing on the server machine. The one in the placeshifter settings will affect the playback on the placeshifter machine. That's the one that I've seen cause the immediate exit behavior.

Ah, never turned 3d on for placeshifter.
Anyway, I've had some success but its not very promising. I configured and tested the internet port in server, it works, nothing. Restarted Sage, on the server, this time I was able to log in with placeshifter but only on a windows machine. Took a few times (yes, cap sensitive password AND username, missed the username cap). But, on windows I got placeshifter to connect. However, video quality was poor. Initially I set for LAN quality, no conversion or anything. Video edges were wavy and got pauses on some HD files (both OTA and H.264) Pausing for a while then playing helped, did not play long to see if it came back. This is playing back on a machine with onboard 6150 video card. I get clean playback of transport streams and H.264 files using vlc or Snapstreams BeyondTV Link from the same server to this machine. I did not check the cpu load on either the client machine or the server, instead I wanted to test it out in linux. I gooted my client machine to my ubuntu studio install, everything setup to handle proprietary drivers, etc. Tried placeshifter again, no luck, still wourl not connect, either it connects and disappears or just locks trying to connect (and here it locks the server as well.) I restarted Sage on the server, tried again, nothing. Any suggestions? Do I need a different user name for this client? Is there another setting I need to use to get this to work in ubuntu? I'm using 8.1, and installed Sage with the debian installer. My goal is just to access my server on my LAN, not messing with anything over the internet. I'd try client but there isn't a linux versions. Any help is appreciated.
