Frequent WinXP crashes with 6.5.17? - SOLVED

Have any of you experienced abnormal winxp crashes with 6.5.17.

Ever since installing 6.5.17 I have had a total of 5 system reboots without any reason. All this at times when the system was not doing anything special.

No problems here with Win XP SP3. Installed 6.5.17 the day it was released. I'm running in service mode.

I also had issues moving to 6.5.17 that made my system very unstable. I would lose tuners and hard drives as soon as SageTV was started (running in service mode did not have any problems). Reverting to 6.5.16 has resolved the issues.

I did further research into the event logs.

I can't pin anything down to SageTV.

One of 2 things could have happened.

1. As I am running VNC on my machine, I noticed that someone was trying a brute force attack to get access to my server. This could have crashed vnc although unlikely.

2. There was a recent anti-virus (avg free) update and an associate disk scan which seemed to give some errors (database related). The first crash occurred right after avg free updated its database (6/11). It is most likely that there was a problem there which caused the crash.

It would be interesting to see if those of you who had similar crashes, also have avgfree.

I consider this a non-sagetv issue.

Well Not Crashing but

I am using Win XP SP3 and was using 6.5.15 with no problems.

Now after updateing to to 6.5.17 Sage appears to hang on most nights but not every night.

This is where Sage becomes non-responsive and you can't open the Icon from service mode or kill the application using the Task Manager.

I am going to enable logging to see why it is hanging.

I will submit a bug report if I cannot point a finger at anything I have done.

Looks like it was the avgfree antivirus that caused my issue.

Ever since updating the virus database over the 6/10 update my server has been rock solid.

No hangs either.

Don't have AVGfree, but thankfully the rebooting problem hasn't come back. But I still lose connectivity to the HD200s every night. The service and server still work and Placeshifter still works.
