Hauppauge 2250 and recording 2 channels from cable box

I have a hauppauge 2250, and i've got a suddenlink cable set top box. My idea was to plug the back of the cable box into the Hauppauge card, have the ir blasters control the box, and be able to record 2 shows at once off the 1 box. Since the card is suppose to have 2 tuners. Right now i have windows media center, and it keeps saying it sees 2 settop boxes, and wont let me set it up to record 2 programs using the 1 cable box.

does sagetv fix this? If so I will be buying today. I dont want to have to buy another card if I dont have to

please help
Brandon

more details please. How are you linking the two? s-video, composite, rf? Have you tried direct without the box (QAM)? Do you have two outputs? Otherwise you won't capture two channels.

hauppauge

I have 1 cable box, with the coax going from the wall, to the cable box, then to my hauppauge card. I'm wanting to be able to record 2 channels at once, but I want to be able to get the digital channels 70+ from my cable box, I can see them fine, but i cant record 2 at once.

If i plug in the coax straight from the wall to the computer, then I only get channels <70, i can record 1 at once, but i want to be able to the higher channels from my cable box. any ideas? I'm thinking I might need to just buy another hauppauge card and have one hooked up to cable box, and another to straight to the wall. that way on 1 i get channel 1-70 and the other 71+ what do you think?

The HVR2250 does have dual tuners, but only if it is getting it from two separate sources or using it's own tuner (channels <70, in your case). So using 1 cable box you will not be able to record two channels. What you could do is set one of the coax cables from the wall to the HVR-2250 and the other one you want to get from the S-Video output of your cable box.. Then you will be able to record 2 channels at once, as long as one of them is in the range of <70. The other option you have is to get another cable box. Which channels are you watching most of the time, by the way?

thanks, i'm going to try that. I usually watch <70 with the occasional channel above 70, so that would work out just fine actually.

Another thing: If you're finding yourself watching local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc) then you may want to try to record clearQAM channels. That is any channels that are in digital format and can be tuned by a QAM (digital cable) tuner. Usually the locals are available in HD or digital.

you said i could use the svideo input to get another set of channels on the hauppauge 2250. I have the wall hooked up and am getting 1-70, on the same card there is an svideo like connection, that has video, and 2 audios, i ran an rca cable form the cable box to that connector which is connected into the hauppauge card, however when I try to scan for the channels, i'm not seeing them. any ides?

when im setting up sources, i get the regular coax just fine, but on the other source it cant find a channel on svideo or composite.

also on the digital over the air, i'll have to look into that, im kind of out in the rural area in oklahoma.

i got that, my hauppauge card came with a usb remote reciever that has 2 ir blaster ports in the back that I can plug in the ir blasters wires, this works in windows media center to control my cable box, but I cant get sagetv to do it.

To use the IRblaster you need to setup the IRBLASTER.EXE that was created (and inclued with the hvr2250's software) by Hauppauge. Once you have setup the hauppauge blaster program to work with your cable box, then you need to tell Sage to use irblaster.exe. I can't help you much more as I have a USBUIRT, but do some searching in the forums. There are many threads about how to go about this (you may also want to use the manual, that is what it is there for)
