TV Fixed

My Samsung 46" DLP died last week. Picture started going weird and then it wouldn't turn on. Bulb was fine, color wheel and fans worked, just no startup. Some searching on the forums yielded a few possibilities but mostly helped me understand how the electronics worked.

Based on that I ordered a new digital board from a parts supplier and installed it today and I have a working TV again! Except the image was upside down. A little more searching on the forums and I found out how to get to the service menu and changed found the setting to correct the picture and all is well now.

Unfortunately I'm not confident that the new board will hold up any better than the last one, but I got 4 years out of the first so I'll be happy if I get 4 more out of this one, and the $200 for the new board sure beats $1400 for a new TV.

It's annoying that the non-mechanical components are the ones failing on me though. This seems to be a common issue with this series of DLPs, but naturally Samsung has no real incentive to correct the issue. I love all this HD goodness but it's sad that my little 19" tube TV is twice as old as the new one and will probably still outlive it.
