Channel Missing

Last night I was watching tv and wanted to watch the cowboys and the giants. I could not find it. I determined that my Sagetv was missing channel 713 (this is the HD version of the channel, the standard def version of the channel is in the guide. I confirmed that it is a valid channel. I confirmed it is listed as a channel in the source setup(it is also set to be active/show). I run SageMC yet I also went back to STV and it is not available in either guide. My zip code is 82601 and I have bresnan communications. Can anyone help me resolve this?

Check my other posts - I have had this happen when the same OTA channel straddles 2 different OTA markets, SageTV's guide service calls it a slighlty different name in each market, and then on top of it my cable co has the same channel on its own cable number. It will drive your EPG nutso.

Only solution - only one market tunes that channel or only your HD-PVR STB tunes it. Must be active in only one market or only on your STB. This only pertains to OTA stuff, but I am assuming if you are talking football you are talking OTA.

Also, you can always try the old "enable/disable" turn the green dot on and off in the channel setup. That works sometimes as well.

You could have an issue if you cable co downrezzes the HD channel as well but keeps the same or slightly different name. I don't know the particulars, but I know one thing - The EPG wants consistent naming of channels and it's not hard to confuse it in that regard.

I am not sure I am understanding you properly. My cable company carries the local channels in SDTV and the same local channels in HDTV. They are not in different markets. All the other HDTV local channels show up in the guide except 713. The one that is not showing up is 713. I will try your suggestion of disabling it then reenabling it (although I think I tried that step already).

Hunter69: If the channel is enabled in Channel Setup, it will be listed in the Guide. In the v6.6-B SageTV PDF manual, see the note starting on the bottom of p. 47. If you can't find the channel, change the Program Guide's sort style to be the channel name instead

I did check to make sure the guide was sorted by name. It is listed under the source setup. I can tell it to tune to the channel from the source setup but when I go back to the regular channel guide (either stv or sagemc) it is not there.

Did you read the manual note I mentioned? If not, please read it. Make sure you've sorted the Program Guide by name, not Channel Setup.

Is the same channel enabled on another lineup? I'm guessing it is. If so, what is the number on the other lineup? Look for that number in the Guide.

So I tried to disable and reenable, no luck. Both tuners are using the same line up. I am including screen shots to show you what I am seeing. i included the one to show how they are being sorted.

I am really getting stumped, I hope you guys aren't.

Thanks for all you time and help that you are so graciously sharing.
Bill

Ignore the disable/re-enable stuff.

1) Use the default STV for all testing.

2) For the 3rd time: set the Program Guide to sort the channels by name. Then, look for the name in the Program Guide to see what number it is listed at. Channel Setup's sort style is mostly irrelevant here; on the other hand, if you had set Channel Setup to sort by name you might have noticed that...

3) From your Channel Setup images, you probably have the same station at channel number 13. Disable it or the one at 713.

Ok so I got rid of my retardiness. I determined that they have the same name. So I played with it and now it doesn't even download the 713 channel at all. I can map channel 13 to 713 but my thought is:

I noticed that all the other locals etc that are HD end with DT but this is the one channel that does not. i don't know if this has anything to do with my problem or not. I have been researching and am guessing sage gets its info from zap2it. I went to the zap2it website and confirmed that this is how it is listed on the website. So if this is a zap2it issue, is there anything that can be done?
Can I manually add Channel 713 to my line? If so what do I need to do

So i wanted to post back that this was a zap2it problem. Sagetv was very helpful with this issue and it got resolved once zap2it corrected the name of the station. It took zap2it a couple days to resolve it.

From page 48 of the manual:

"Alternatively, if the same network is available on both sources, but on different channel numbers, that network may be listed only once using only one of those channel numbers. For example: CNN may be on both sources: as channel 6 on one and channel 25 on the other. In this case, CNN will be displayed as channel 6 or 25, but not both; however, CNN will actually still be available from both sources on the proper channels. SageTV will internally track which channel belongs to each source. If all sources use the same channel lineup, all channels are listed only once."

This is annoyance to me because my ABC affiliate has an HD and an SD analog channel on my cable lineup, but I have only 1 station name (and channel ID) in my channel line-up to map to these 2 channels from that affiliate, so I can only have one of those channels listed in the guide. I would like both to show in the guide so I can choose manually whether to use the HD channel or analog channel for that ABC affiliate for any particular show in the guide. (I know, most channels will have something like WBBM for their analog station and WBBM-DT for their digital station, but I have only one entry for this ABC affiliate. Actually, I have the same issue with my CW channel.)

My workaround was to look up the channel ID of another ABC affiliate which is not part of my line up and manually add that channel ID to my lineup mapping it to my analog ABC physical channel. Now this other ABC channel shows up in the guide using a different station ID It's mostly effective in resolving this issue for me, but the only problem is that some of the programming doesn't match up between the 2 ABC affiliates. Why the heck doesn't SageTV just let you add 2 different channels to the same station ID so that I don't have to use this workaround?
